<p>Hows the greek system at UCSD?</p>

<p>Always hosts the parties/social events if you want them. </p>
<p>Basically 2 types of Sororities: Panhellenic ones: [University</a> of California - San Diego, PHC](<a href=“http://panhellenicucsd.org/home]University”>http://panhellenicucsd.org/home) that are mostly caucasian girls who are “philanthropic”
Then there are the multi-culutural sororities; these are the non-white sororities. There are many asian sororities and like 1 latino sorority who promote diversity…</p>
<p>Fraternities: same thing… most of them are seperated by race (White, Asian, Latinos – NAKS/GAMMAS), etc), but there are different races in some fraternities like the PIKES and FIJI. Lots of controversy with the PIKES recently though. The rushing/and esp. pledging for Asian frats are brutal. They aren’t supposed to tell us what they do, but I’ve heard they had to carry bricks in their backpacks or acknowledge their brothers really formally or kneel and keep their forehead on the ground where ever they go… go around completing a list of tasks like getting girls to take pictures with them etc… Yeah…as you expect they host lots of parties with lots of alcohol, but they are all held off campus in SD because there isn’t a frat row here. I’ve seen people swim naked in pools at frat parties because they are so drunk lol. They have lots of fundraisers and clubbing events as well as dances too. Try rushing and see if you like it, if not, just go for the free food/activities because there is no obligation…just go for fun during rush week and see if you like it!</p>

<p>A lot of people will say that there is no frat or sorority life here but thats only because there isnt a frat row (La Jolla as a city wont allow it). But there is a frat life and if you make the right friends, you’ll definitely be a part of it. It’ll just be off campus. And just like the above poster said… all the frats are definitely separated by race and stuff with a few (like TEKE) which are multicultural.</p>
<p>Love the greek system… easy to find parties and you make great friends! Asian sororities/frats haze like crazy, IFC frats haze minimally (staying sober at certain events and taking pledge exams), and panhellenic sororities do not haze at all.</p>
<p>Really? Asian sororities and frats are like that in SD? 
Darn,well Panhellenic sororities sound nice. I like volunteering, so I may look at those. Are they hard to get into, since I’m Asian and well, like Clark said, they’re mostly white?</p>

<p>Only the Asian frats haze like crazy, but for the asian sororities, they don’t so you should definitely consider the asian sororities. </p>
<p>You can always get into a Panhellenic sorority even if you aren’t white as long as you show interest and prove that you would be a good sister. It’s just that Asians like to be around asians so they join the asian sorority and the same goes with white sororities. I know a bunch of asians in the panhellenic sororities so that goes to show that nothing is impossible.</p>
<p>Also…if you just like to volunteer, you don’t need to join a sorority…consider clubs like CIRCLE K… college version of KEY CLUB</p>
<p>I’m half black and half japanese and i’m in a panhellenic sorority, so trust me, ethnicity isn’t what will get you in, it’s your personality.
And the point of panhellenic sororities isn’t to volunteer with everything. Yes, philanthropy is involved, but the social life is important too.</p>
<p>I’ve heard that asian sororities haze too, but then again, they’re just rumors and i have no first hand experience.</p>

<p>My high school is majority white, but also densely Asian. 50% white and 43% Asian so I don’t really care to sticking with Asians (though most of my friends are). </p>
<p>Oh! I know for sure I’m going to be joining clubs, but I just wanted to see if the sorority option was still an option for me.</p>

<p>^Yeah seriously… I have friends in asian sororities and I can tell you THEY HAZE. I have listened to them describe specific things. It’s disgusting.</p>
<p>Panhellenic sororities are also diverse for the most part. You don’t need to be white to join.</p>
