Hi everyone, I’m a 2017 incoming freshmen at UCSD and I want to take some summer courses to get ahead in college. I took AP Chinese and got a 5; has anyone every had the first two courses in foreign language sequence exempt with that ap score? If so, will it be possible to take CHIN 10C but not CHIN 20C? (bc my community college only offers transferable course for 10C)
@brendaphans Yes, my son in Muir College got credit for two French courses by getting a 5 on the AP test. He took the third course in one of the French sequences and completed his requirement. It looks as if you might be able to do this with Chinese from this chart, but I would probably email someone in admissions to make sure and also to make sure you take the correct course.

By the way, he didn’t have to petition for the credit. It showed up automatically on his record based on the AP scores he submitted.
Do you know which courses the AP French score exempted?
I did email them they just told me to take transferrable community college courses, but they didn’t specify which courses the AP Chinese credit can exempt.
@brendaphans He was given credit for LTFR 2A and LTFR 2B which gave him 8 credits total. He completed his sequence requirement by taking LTFR 2C.
I finally saw what you meant about having to petition for the 2 Chinese courses:

I can’t understand why they can’t tell you which Chinese course to take at community college. They must get that question every year from new students.
