UCSD or Davis?

it's not what you say dude it's how you say it. you come across as a major hater.

rankings to people as the bible to people lol
respond if u know what i mean :)

ranks just make people more cocky like omgz uc davis is better than uci b/c they are one rank higher omgz ucla omg all the smart guys go there omgz i want to go too !~
thats what all the students and parents care about, nothing else. ignorant slobs.

Yeah, plus you cant take these rankings as absolute. Are you telling me there is a way to quantify the competence and curriculum into a ranking? You can take such factors as professors, or grad school placement, or alumni ranking, but reallly each program cant be compared black and white. When you take Political Science, each school, no matter how good or bad it is, will teach you, for example, Comparative Politics. You will be recieving basically the same information from a Political Science class in a school ranked 100 than from a school ranked 1st. So when you say a school isnt as good academically, i dont understand what you mean by that. They teach the same things as other top schools. The difference is just in quality of professers ( awards, published books, nobel prizes) , and the students on campus. B, LA, and SD are better known academically because they are more selective and attract better performing students. Aside from job placement by name recognition, a graduate of UC davis is at no disadvatage compared against a graduate of Berkeley, LA or SD. If a student is capable of holding a certain job, they will eventually get it. Name recognition only opens the doors, but if you are qualified enough those doors will open with time.

it helps if you are hot and friendly too. nerds are at a major disadvantage in the interview process.

chris - settle down bud. i did not point my finger at you, incase you missed it the first time around, i stated "some people." I did not say "YOU!" you are missing key terms such as "almost" as well. in short, learn how to read.

Different people are attracted to different things...I am a parent and during two trips to UCSD, I saw things that were really interesting but the student population seemed stressed. Even the clerks in the bookstore looked annoyed. On the other hand during many visits to Davis, most students looked fairly happy and appeared quite friendly. My D must have gotten a similar impression during her visits. I wasn't surprised when my d turned town SD for Davis.

Others could have opposite observations or reasons. I don't think there is that much difference in the quality of education offered. A lot will depend on how you match up with your major.

where you go is where you go...so learn a lot and enjoy your life.
