I'm trying to decide between these two schools. I want to do a double major in bio and poli sci and possibly a minor in philosophy. I know UCSD is "ranked" above UCLA in these areas. However, I visited the campus; it's way too dead for my tastes. I am not a partier, but I'm also not a bookworm. I'm pretty sure UCLA is great for these majors, but how are the bio research opportunities? I know UCSD has a ton. Not sure about UCLA....

This should be the least of your worries here. Come to UCLA. It's lively and you're in bustling LA.

Rankings aren't everything.

Go where you like best...it's that easy.

There's tons of research opportunities, especially through SRP

I'll take a campus tour and make my decision. I liked UCSD for what it had to offer, except there's no social life.

yea UCSD is socially dead. The best thing about SD is that SDSU and TJ are in close proximity. UCLA is WAAAAY better.

UCLA over UCSD all day every day. There is no comparison in terms of overall experience.

I encountered the same question last year and am at UCLA right now. Really happy with my choice. Bio + poly sci + minor = death.

one of my high school friends is at SD. During spring break, he said that there is absolutely nothing to do in San Diego

uh UCLA isn't that much better than UCSD. And a social life is entirely what you make of it!

UCLA all the way. Shouldn't even be an issue.

lol...

let me tell you that a double major in bio and poli sci plus a minor in philo is totally unrealistic. unless you want to remain as an undergrad for 6-7 years.

jasonlee is just bitter because he got rejected from ucla..you have no idea..i have heard from everyone from other places that ucla was a much better experience than sd..and that's even coming from sd students

OK, thanks for the advice. Since I obviously don't know much about majors, I hope I didn't sound too stupid. But it's nice to me a taste of reality. Thanks.

how about major in bio and minor in linguistics/german? would UCLA or UCSD be better? and where can i graduate sooner? I heard ucla has fewer GE courses to take, is that true? I'm in ucsd sixth..

UCLA General Catalog 2007-08: COLLEGE OF LETTERS AND SCIENCE

list of requirements for college of letters and sciences.

browse the website and you'll find majors and degrees and their required courses.

UCSD has a social scene, it's just not much of a Greek life thing.

man i'm really torn between the two... i think i might SIR to UCLA
