Hi all, I recently got accepted into the Earl Warren college at UC San Diego as a transfer student. Regarding housing, do I stay at The Village or can I also apply for the Warren apartments as well? What are the pros and cons for either option? Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also if I stay at The Village, am I still a part of the Earl Warren community?

Congratulations on your acceptance to UCSD! The Village is specially made for transfers so unless under special circumstances (eg. you apply and become a RA for Warren apartments), you will be housed at the Village if you decide to house on campus. If you decide to live at the Village you will still be apart of the Earl Warren community and even get Warren events emailed directly to your UCSD email account.

Personally speaking The Village has newer and nicer facilities than most of the apartments in all other six colleges. So in that regard, it’s better, unfortunately though the disadvantage of living at The Village is how up north it is away from every other part of campus. However they do offer shuttles that take you where you need to go throughout campus and you’ll probably be using that a lot. I’ve heard mixed reviews from a lot of people living at The Village. In general it’s a much more lively sociable scene than if you were to live off-campus, however you will have to hunt to meet other Warren students. As a transfer student myself, I found that it’s difficult to integrate yourself in your own respective college. Instead most transfers find they group with other transfers as most never grew to feel attached to their respective college at UCSD. But of course it doesn’t have to be this way. During orientation (at your Warren college), it’s a great chance to meet other transfers who are in your college. They even give you a T-shirt with your college’s name on it. I wore mine a few times and even had random people stop by to comment and connect with me on that basis of sharing the same college.

Here’s a quick little overview of The Village:

Pros:

-One of the nicest living facilities on campus.
-Everyone else is generally a transfer student or upperclassmen.
-Social scene is how you make it (I’ve seen many parties hosted there and also many quiet study sessions).
-You can walk to the beach from the Village down a cliff in literally 15 minutes or less.

Cons:

-Expensive (however this wouldn’t really change if you lived at Warren Apartments either).
-No real good dining halls nearby.
-Very far up north of campus.

Hope I’ve helped somewhat, good luck!

Sorry to hijack the thread,

but when are housing applications due? Also, is it on a first come first serve basis? I got in to UCSD but am waiting on other schools.

Also, is it possible to get a single room as a transfer?

Here’s a link to answer most FAQs regarding The Village:

[UC San Diego Housing - The Village, Frequently Asked Questions](http://hdh.ucsd.edu/thevillage/faq.asp)

Housing applications are due June 1st and further instructions are given in your UCSD email account after you apply. As a transfer student you are guaranteed a spot in The Village (however which building in The Village will be out of your control). Also yes, it is possible to get a single as a transfer - you can see the rates posted at that site.
