I just got back from ucsd admit day today and I really liked the campus, especially rimac. The thing is that I got regent from both uci and ucd, but nothing from ucsd. The money is not really an issue, but from what I heard the priority registration can be a huge benefit. I'm going to be a bio major which is a very impacted major, so just how hard will it be for me to get the classes that I want? With my goal being medical school, will I be able to get everything done in four years? Another thing is that I understand registration time depends on the number of units you have, I have 20 units from a cc and 6 AP classes, will those get me a pretty good registration time? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

I know you say money is not an issue, but getting a practically free ride at two comparable UCs (anyone who says otherwise is just being an elitist) is not something that should be passed up.

UCSD is definitely known for Biology, but this is mostly at the graduate/doctoral level. There are plenty of students at both Irvine and Davis who get into plenty of high-ranked Med Schools. Priority registration is great, too (I had this at UCSD 3 out of 4 years, and this was invaluable to me being able to double major/double minor while graduating on time).

Whether it’s you or your parents paying it, 4 years’ tuition in loans/living expenses can add up extremely quickly, and if you (not saying you won’t) happen to not get that dream job or get into medical school, you might be deep in debt.

You’ll have a good registration time and be able to get the classes you need. Also I don’t think graduating in 4 years will be a problem. I agree with Oyama though, the Regents Scholarship is tons of money. I would have taken a Regents Scholarship to Davis in a heartbeat. That’s just me though

@Oyama. You said that you had priority registration for 3 out of 4 years. Did you get it starting sophomore year? If so, how did you get it?
@kingselite. I never even considered Davis before seeing the amount of the Regent scholarship. UCSD is the first campus that I really looked at and liked. I will be visiting Davis next week and I really hope that I like it, because it’s hard to turn down so much money.

^Davis seems pretty similar to UCSD from what I can tell from visiting there quite a few times.

Just out of curiosity, how is the amount of the regent scholarship decided at each uc campus, because the difference is pretty significant among the campuses.

I didn’t have it Sophomore year since I was disqualified from my scholarship due to un-academic probation freshman year (yeah, I was “bad”).

I regained most of my privileges (not the honorarium, unfortunately) 3rd/4th year after retaining a near 4.0 my 2nd year along with working on various research projects with professors (I was even granted the Chancellor’s Research Scholarship the last two years).
