I got accepted into both. I want to study bioengineering, so even though Michigan's engineering school is better than Jacobs, UCSD is very strong in that particular major (it's considered second after Hopkins as far as I know). Plus I live in Phoenix, AZ, and it would be nice if I was that close to home. On the other hand, Michigan looks very appealing because of its social life (it would be nice to live in an actual college town instead of a rich suburb) and sports.
What do you guys think?

hmm...that's actually a tough decision. if you really wanna live close to home though then choose SD for sure. also since you're oos it costs the same for SD and Mich right? At Mich you'll definitely get a more college-like experience (GREAT sports like their storied football program, frats, etc.)..at UCSD you can get that as well but to a much lesser degree IMHO

Well, I'm not too entirely sure, but it sounds like you're going to do Bioengineering=>Med school? If that's the case, UCSD is a better choice. Not only is it highly ranked for bioengineering, you have the in-state access to some of the best med schools in the country (UCSF, UCLA, UCSD) These schools are worthwhile when you have to carry tremendous debts for med school, since public schools are ~$15,000 cheaper.

If that ISN'T the case however, then while I would still say UCSD is a good choice, Michigan is a unique experience. UCSD has all that college stuff, but it's largely borrowed from SDSU xD

im not sure if u get instate access..i thought you have to be a resident of CA and not just a student from a CA school? but dont quote me on that..im not sure.

Tough decision, but i think i would go with Michigan. as much as i love UCSD, Mich is overall higher ranked and im pretty sure its bioE and biosciences are pretty awesome...its only undergrad so its not like you have to take the best school for whatever program. It may even be possible that you switch out of BioE cus you dont like it..but both schools have great programs in other fields (i think Michigan is more well rounded? like better humanities whereas sd is mroe sciencey) so mich will give you better options if you do switch.

however if you are dead set on bioE..sd has lots of famous biotech companies and research institutions around that you can intern for (Pfizer, Salks, Scripps, and a whole bunch of other biotech companies nearby) to provide you a better grasp on your major and things to explore.

Michigan has 4 season weather..SD pretty much has only two--Fall/Spring. Michigan has a famous football team, SD = :[ (i really wish he had better sports!!!). Mich is probably more diverse whereas SD is pretty much 50/50 Asian and Caucasian. your personality and preference should dictate your choice of university. VISIT THE CAMPUSES! hopefully that will make ur decision easier
