UF 2008 application woes

But there is a score choice for the ACT

Ubiquity - NO, the ACT does not have past score results on the reports (unlike the SAT that lists everything that you ever took with college board, including your SAT 2's).

hey seiclan, my status just became available and guess what, same problem. I just got off the phone with a freshman admissions representative, explaining that I didn't send the 5 ACT's they have on record. She explained that for most schools in Florida, they automatically have access to the records for some reason. I stressed several times that I didn't want them to hamper my application in any way because I did not send them. I also had 2 ACT's from when I was in 7th and 8th grade that were on file but the rep made a note on my file, making it clear that those two scores were from such a long time ago.

I'm really upset that those ACT scores are on file without my consent. I did not in any way want them to be counted. I actually took it 3 times this year, and the third time I really slacked off on two sections and that dropped that test's score to a 25. She kept trying to stress to me that only my highest score would be looked at but I also realize that those 25, 26, and 27 ACT scores will be staring them in the face. I'm just really upset right now that I was mislead into thinking that the score choice option would be upheld by UF. Damn the ACT

Does any one have any idea how much this will hurt me? I can't get myself to put too much weight on what the rep said.

Vincanity1-
"She explained that for most schools in Florida, they automatically have access to the records for some reason. "
When the rep told you this did she mean for most "highschools" In other words did they get the info from ACT directly or rather fromyour highschool?

I can understand why you feel upset. However I do believe they will look at your highest score.

oops. hmm....if it makes you feel better I never took the ACT and I was accepted? good luck. when do you find out the decision? in feb?

"When the rep told you this did she mean for most "highschools" In other words did they get the info from ACT directly or rather fromyour highschool?"

I spoke with my daughter's guidance counselor and she said "This sometimes happens with the Florida State universities only because there is a test repository in Tallahassee (I think) where the state universities could go and find a students test scores. I believe it is based on SS#, matched with name, birth date, etc. It really is not a terrible thing because they only take the best set of scores anyway. However, if you feel uncomfortable with that, please do not hesitate to call UF and ask..."

We will just let it slide...

I do feel uncomfortable with it to some degree, but moreso I don't feel that they should have access to this information. The ACT is even credited for giving you the option of sending only certain scores. Needless to say that "advantage" is voided when applying to UF in state and that is wrong.

We have also been told that Florida public Universities have electronic access to all SAT and ACT scores, and electronic access to all Florida public HS transcripts. The transcript access is separate from the state FACTS program (FACTS.org). I am not sure if the ACT/SAT info is tied into FACTS or is a separate electronic access directly with SAT and ACT. I do know that on admissions counselor at FSU said that FSU would be able to access the Oct SAT scores prior to their actually "receiving" them upon student request.

Where do we go on Feb 15 to find out the decision?

Usually it is posted on your status page. In the past, decisions were posted on Friday's after 6 PM (probably so you couldn't call anyone at UF to talk about it until after the weekend).
