What do UF kids and FSU kids have in common?

They both got accepted at FSU…

I never applied to FSU.

I applied to only one school: the one I attend.

@zapadniyrus
zing.

Zapadniyrus-lol your totally right! (well atleast from my duval county perspective of students). Most kids hence I said most apply to both UF and FSU and base their decision off whether they got in or not, the best fit for them, and the financial aid package they were offered.

FSU. Go 'Noles.

I did not even apply to FSU.

That’s great, I’m sure you love which which ever school you attend! :)

Literally every kid I know that applied to FSU got accepted… every single applicant.
Ewww…

UF is considered the hardest univ in FL to get into, the degree is worth more. There are companies with divisions in FL that only look for/hire new grads at UF.

Puleeze, anyone who really needs to think about “UF vs. FSU” should go to FSU because they do not belong at UF. That is like pondering “Beatles vs. the Archies” or “Charlie Parker vs. Kenny G”

DNation: you’re right about that! Nearly 30% of my senior class applied and all got in except 5 or 6 out of 175 or so that applied! Sadly, some of the dumbest people were admitted in that number.

Let me try to explain the way I see the UF FSU situation.

When I graduated from high school 35 years ago (yikes). I went to a small school we only had 29 in our senior class. 12 of us applied to UF 3 of us were accepted and the other 9 went to FSU.

Last year my sons high school that I know of 15 students applied to UF 4 were accepted and the other 11 went to FSU.

Everyone of the students that went to FSU had UF as their first choice.

That is all I have to say.

^Such information makes articles like this:

a bit difficult to explain. If UF was so preferred back when, why’d UF have lower graduation rates than Florida State?

I’ve noticed that parent2noles has a propensity to go on these boards and attack UF. The Flavet biting story brought to mind some stories I have of growing up in Tallahassee as a Gator fan.

Back in those days (and maybe it’s still the case), FSU fans cheered at ALL their games (not just when they played UF) “Go to h*ll Gators”. They could be playing Wake Forest, and they would be cussing Florida.

During one UF/FSU game at Doak the Joke when I was very small, an older female (Grandma age) FSU fan in front of me had a rubber gator she mutilated systematically during the game. At that same game, my brother was hit over the head with an umbrella by an older woman - he was maybe in middle school.

When I got to UF (yes, the best students from Tallahassee pretty much went to UF), I thought all the Gator fans would hate FSU - just like FSU fans hated UF. But I found that FSU was an after thought. UF fans were much more pumped about the Georgia game and some of the other SEC games.

There is alot of fixation on UF in Tallahassee. I think it would be better for FSU to be positive about their own school. It makes them look small to always be attacking UF. FSU is a great school with their own traditions and strengths - but when their supporters are always framing everything in terms of UF, it makes them look weak and defensive.

I think it is important to distinguish between FSU and UF when necessary and to correct perceptions.

I really don’t care what UF fans think of this commentary. Not that I intend to be rude.

@samantha12 - If I don’t get into UF I am going to FSU. It sounds like from what you posted that the students at FSU have an inferiority complex about UF. I don’t think I can be happy at a school where the students are obsessed with another school :(

I hope it is not like that at FSU.

HarrietH,

FSU is a beautiful school in a beautiful city (my hometown!). It has a rich history, great sports, and great programs.

Just don’t become one of those people focused on UF if you go to FSU. Make the most of wherever you go and be proud of your school.

Good luck to you! :)

P.S. It is a great rivalry. Try to enjoy that rather than getting caught up in any negativity!

Alleging an inferiority complex or whatever term really does not establish what you think it does.

Such is a red herring to make you feel better or divert attention when the ratings you rely on are proved flawed, your claims are shown to be incorrect or you simply have no better answer to rebuttal or criticism.
