UF require 2 years of Foreign language?

I'm a ESOL student with more than 2 years of vietnamese speaking, do I require to take french in order to reach the requirement for attend UF?

I would imagine that you don’t need to take another language. Contact admissions and ask them how you can show that you meet the requirements, considering you already speak Vietnamese. They might allow you to show that you came from a foreign country (if you did) or family that raised you primarily speaking a language other than English and just allow that. Perhaps they will make you take a proficiency test on Vietnamese. I don’t think it’ll be necessary for you to take French (unless you WANT to take French).

I’m pretty sure there’s a test you have to take to prove proficiency in another language. That would replace the 8 credits of foreign language required of those of us who only speak English. Check with the advisors at your current school.

There’s a foreign language requirement for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and possible some other ones as well. There is a chance that your college may not require a language (you didn’t mention your major). If your college does require one, you can tests out by passing an AP/IB/CLEP/AICE exam or SAT subject test in any language that UF offers. I got a 6 in IB Spanish, so I’m good (even though my college, the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences, doesn’t require a language). There is a way that you can speak to someone in one of the language departments to demonstrate your fluency in Vietnamese. If it’s good enough (I think I needs to be at an intermediate level), then you will have your language requirement fulfilled. Good luck! :)

I assumed you were talking about transferring. If you are a transfer student of any major you will need 2 years of foreign language. I don’t know what freshman requirements are now. I graduated HS a long, long time ago lol. When I graduated we were told we needed foreign language for admission to a 2 year school. In either case you can test out of that requirement.

Oh, I had no idea that minhtony97 was talking about transferring to UF. I was talking about the freshman requirements. My mistake. Unfortunately, I know nothing about foreign language requirements for transfer students.

I don’t know which he/she talking about. I assumed transfer and answered as such and then realized he/she may have been talking about freshman admissions.

I’m not sure what ESOL is, but I checked the OP’s profile, and he/she is 16 years old. I’m now thinking the question is about freshman admission requirements, because they’re planning classes for their last couple of years of high school. Is this correct, minhtony97?

ESOL is English as a Second Language. I’m guessing you’re right about freshman admission.
