I’m a political science major with a 3.8 GPA and volunteer experience for a St Petersburg councilmember. I’m in USF right now and can’t wait to transfer to UF as soon as I get 60 credits (6 credits short) You guys seem well informed, what are my chances according to you?

honestly, according to the university of florida. if you had applied this year your chances would be about 10%.

because you’re coming from a university.

yes 10% if you are an ABSOLUTE spitting image of the average applicant, which we cannot determine under any circumstance because that statistics is not released (avg transfer gpa).

If we put into consideration this very case of 3.8 gpa you have a MUCH higher than 10% chance.

have any admitted applicants been able to register for orientation? …the first orientation is tomorrow which I can’t possibly make because of the timing of the decision and the next one is on may 8…anything after that is in june and classes will have already started.

I still am not able to register,

Currently we are unable to process your Preview Registration. If you need to register for Preview Orientation and have been admitted to the university, there may be a problem your with contact information or GatorLink ID. If this is the case, you will need to contact the GatorLink Help Desk at 352-392-HELP to correct this. If your contact information and UFID is correct, contact 352-392-1261 for further assistance. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

I think this is because I have not yet received the OFFICIAL letter in the mail.

@ rsala - I had the same problem trying to register for orientation. I’m actually going to BE in gainesville tomorrow (signing a lease), so I wanted to do orientation and register for classes, but I guess we’re not cleared yet since we just got accepted :(

have any accepted students been able to get into your uf email?

heh careful, no letter in mail yet, signing a lease

imagine opening the letter and reading “due to recent budget issues…we encourage you to reapply…in another lifetime”

humiliation

I guess no one got accepted yesterday…

seems that way…

and rsala… 10% is still 10% regardless of gpa. sure, with a 3.8 you would think you’d have a better chance of being in that 10%.

preference is given to those coming from a CC with an AA.

incorrect tebow -.-
of all ‘other transfers’ it includes the full (unknown) gpa range

10% is NOT still 10% regardless of gpa (this would only be true in the circumstance of uf choosing people at 100% random)

kid 1: 3.1 from usf ;teb0w1 says: if you had applied this year your chances would be about 10%.

kid 2: 3.9 from usf ;teb0w2 says: if you had applied this year your chances would be about 10%.

both teb0w1 and teb0w2 can’t be right it would not make sense, assigning 10% for all type of applicant is false, and it only applys for the someone directly in the average of the total applicant pool

SO YES a 3.8 does increase chance beyond 10% IF AND ONLY IF 3.8 > AVERAGE acceptable APPLICANT

/end rant

so you would rather me say

he has an 85% chance of being in the 10% accepted?

lol

then again…

if this site is any indication of potential transfer students mostly everyone here has a 3.7+ gpa…

so if that’s the same for uni transfers it’s still 10%

rather you say, yea i guess

so i was able to to register for preview. And I am pretty sure you can change majors as long as the change is within your college and the prereqs are the same.

so it would be nice to receive an admissions decision [:

Darn…this is taking forever!

lol, i agree.

it’s great to see people getting in but the wait is beyond annoying.

1st school - Georgia Tech - Withdrew because i’m poor but not poor enough to get any out of state financial aid. I was also pretty miserable.

2nd school - FIU received AA ( a few credits from highschool ) with 3.35 - really amazing to have a 3.35 considering I never went to class because it was too far of a drive and I did not realize how important GPA was, I even missed a few finals (Macroeconomics, Physics II) but still pulled off a C and B respectively. My last semster there however, I pulled straight A’s.

3rd school - UCF Physics Major with 3.94 - Got back on my feet and became more motivated. But soon became upset with upper level class rigor (too easy) and I feel like I am getting a crappy education.

so here I am with my hopes for getting into a more academically appraised school which I previously got into from highschool : I applied to UF for fall 09 to graduate with a physics BS and math minor.

Summary:
1st college - too expensive
2nd college - too boring/far
3rd college - too easy
Final college if accepted (UF) - inexpensive, more academic

One thing I am worried about, besides the fact that I have been to 3 different colleges already, is having too many credits. I have heard stories of people at UF that had too many credits or were unable to graduate, change majors, etc. Also the secretary on the phone said that they normally accept Juniors with 60-90 transfer credits. I have about 30 useless/unusable credits (organic chem, economics, world religions, etc), and by the end of this semester I will have 116 credits.

However, I do have enough needed credits in Math and Physics to gain residency at UF, and I feel that my letter of intent was very strong because I have a lot of math/engineering/entrepreneurial work experience. Is anyone else applyng to CLAS for physics, and if so, what is your status? My status still says that my app has been referred to college for final decision, which I was told would be made by mid april.

regarding the credits, id ask an enrollment officer, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up. My major requires that you need AT LEAST 18 credit hours from UF classes to qualify for graduation. I would imagine that they want people who are at 60 hours for various reasons, but that is not to say you won’t get in. I wish you and all the other applicants best of luck.

clocksmith,
It feels good to see another physics person on this thread! My current major is physics, but I applied for chemistry (my intent is to graduate with an IDS in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry). Anyways, I spoke to a chem rep. (with a doctorate) in person. She basically told me its damn near impossible to get into UF as a senior division graduate, ESPECIALLY now due to their ensuing government mandates. If I was in your boat, with your really strong competitive GPA and what not, I would either apply to FSU or stay where you are and apply to MIT, U Texas in Austin, and UF for grad school (You should get in with based on your credentials).

P.S.
My status says the same thing. Based on this thread, UF posted decisions on tues. and wed. of this week. I’m assuming if you don’t get anything by 8-9ish today, they’ll do the same thing this week.

To everyone,

I don’t know if this was always there, but I checked my full degree audit thing on ISIS and at the very bottom page it had information about Non-AA transfers getting 2-drops. Can any of the 4-years see it too? Do any of you guys with AA’s have something different?
