UF transfers Fall 2012 Decision?!

For CLAS it is about 2-3 weeks to get a final decision.

Hi all,

I am transferring from a 4 year university. i was pre-nursing and finished all my pre reqs (nothing below a B) but switched my major to something my school doesn’t offer. I’m in-state and trying to get in to UF for APK: fitness/wellness.

Does anyone know how often they accept transfers from a 4 yr institution? my GPA is 3.64 but the core one is much higher (i calculated it a while ago…i think it was around 3.9 or 3.8).

Also, how long does the college of human health and performance usually take to respond? and lastly, is it a very competitive college?

OH, and i have all but two of the prereqs for fitness/wellness at UF and i indicated id be taking them in the summer, and ill be getting my AA from FIU after this semester (i also indicated that)

You’ll have your A.A which is great, but since it’s from a University and not a community college you do not get priority consideration which is a disadvantage.

You need to look up if APK is a “limited access program”. I think it is, but I am not sure. If I’m right, then this is another odd against you. Limited access programs, which include majors such as bio, psych, nursing and education, are more competetive.

Your pre req GPA seems solid, and applying before you have all your pre reqs isnt a problem. If they do accept you they’ll probably say you’re admission is conditional until they see the grades you got in those Pre Reqs (they might state you need a B or better).

Assuming you applied before the March 1st deadline, a decision may arrive anywhere from a few weeks, to a few months. It’s sporadic and random. Some people have even said they got their answer within days.

From what I hear all health related fields at UF are “extra hard” to get into, so I am assuming your college may be a tough one. I would try to get my GPA up til atleast 3.7 by the fall.

Keep us posted, and good luck :)

Thank for replying :)

Yeah I just hope that the four year university thing isn’t a huge detriment I’m hoping my letter of recommendation from
FIU and my resume and my swimming for 15 years works for them cause all that shows I’d be great for the major and I read somewhere that they look at how you’d fit in to the major as a whole. And it’s about athletics and stuff.

I’m taking some hard classes this semester since I’m still in the nursing route at FIU like anatomy and professional nursing but I’m sure i can get my gpa up or keep it high

I did apply before march 1 I applied in February and I’m getting super manic about when I’ll hear back :/.

Still no word. I called during last week and the receptionist at the health and human performance college told me “sunday is mid April and they said they’d start mid to late April”. Why do I have a feeling I won’t hear until May…
Do they only give out decisions on a Friday? Anyone know about how speedy the HHP college is with decisions for transfers?

nosegoes26, I was just accepted into APK: Fitness/ Wellness. It is rolling admission and only the Athletic Training concentration is limited access. Since it is health-related, it is quite competitive. And usually Universities do not give A.A. degrees, that is mainly for community colleges. As long as you have your prerequisites and 60-hours, they should be able to transfer without any problem. Email the advisors at the College of Health and Human Performance. They are more than happy to help you and answer all of your questions. I bothered them for months before I actually applied.

Hi thank you for replying

I applied in early February and they’ve been telling me I’ll hear back mid to late April but from other forums it seems that uf changes when you’ll hear back at their leisure? Is it okay to assume
I’ll hear within the next week?

I will have my AA from my university I made sure because when I first called to apply they told me straight up I’m not priority since I’m not from a CC. So I made sure to have that. I’ll also have 6/8 prerequisite by the end of spring and all of them by summer. I turned in everything my letter of intent of recommendation and the essays and app in February.

Do you thin I’ll hear back before may? Oh and I’ll have 63 credits I think by te end of spring. It’s not limited seating for fitness/wellness?

Hey guys, so I still haven’t heard from CLAS and its been over 3 weeks now. I’m quite anxious but, given that I have a good GPA and I’m coming from a Florida CC with an AA degree, I feel that I am a good candidate for acceptance. I’ve heard multiple people say that if the college rejects you for the specific major, you can still choose to apply at that time for another major. Apparently since the University already overviewed your application, they essentially accepted you. Is there any truth in this or is it just hearsay?

I don’t understand what you’re saying… Since the university denied you, they automatically accept you next time?

University of Florida has a strange acceptance process for transfer students. First you send your application to the University, they have to review your GPA, your prereqs, etc… and once they approve of your application, they pass it on to your specific college. In my case its the College of Liberal Arts and Science. Transfers apply directly to a major, and mine falls under CLAS, so they have final say on whether I get accepted into that specific program or not.

That isn’t exactly right - you apply to UF - submit transcripts - the admissions office evaluates if you meet the minimal university conditions - did you meet the foreign language requirement, do you have a 2.0 at each school, are you actually going to have enough credits to be a junior - if an application makes it past that then it is forwarded to the college for a decision based on prerequisites or competitiveness.

ok, so what happens if the college says no? Is there anything that can be done at that point in time?

Appeal. You can simply “change majors”. Remember there were certain deadlines you needed to adhere to. You can’t just ask them to redirect your app to another college after your original college /major says no. That doesn’t even make sense.

alright, thanks PrettyPeridot and Melissa96. I still haven’t heard from them yet, and I hope that when i do, it will all be good news. But in the case that they say no, i’ll definitely be very quick to appeal their decision.

I have a good friend still waiting to hear back from the Fisher School of Accounting, he applied in February for Summer B… Anyone else still waiting/ applied to the accounting school ?

I applied as a transfer student to CALS on Dec 18, 2011 for transfer into the hort science program. I have a 3.9 gpa and am active in student organizations. My application status has been the same since Jan 1: “Your application for admission to the University of Florida for the Fall 2012 term has been referred to your college for a final decision.”

I went into the advisor a couple weeks ago and I was told my application is with the Dean.

Anyone else have experience with this?

I just want to know if I am starting school in the Fall.

FAery77 - the college has promised to have decisions by June 15th - you have less than a month at most until you have your decision.

If anything send in your updated transcripts if you haven’t already. I did it for myself last week and they gave me a conditional acceptance near the end of that same week. Sometimes the college doesn’t make a decisions because they are either fickle and haven’t got to it or because they are waiting for your next set of grades to see how well you did on pre-reqs.

Thanks. I did send in a new copy of my transcripts a couple hours ago.

June 15th still seems like a long way off but I’m glad to know there is a date set.

Yeah, since it’s CALS, they take especially long with notifying you of their decision. What major are you going for? Always make sure they have your updated transcript. That is the primary goal along with keeping your grades up. I wish you luck Faery!
