I am currently attending a community college in southern Illinois studying computer science. The very first class I took was math 114, Trigonometry. I got a D, but now I am retaking it and I have an A. Unfortunately, taking this class over again has pushed all my other classes back a semester that require trig. as a prerequisite. The way it's looking right now I would have to attend for 2 1/2 years (5 semesters) to finish what I need to. Would that be acceptable to UIUC? I'm thinking I can take a semester, (spring '09) off and work and/or get some experience, volunteer, etc. before I apply UIUC.
Also, I only took 1 1/2 years of Spanish when the requirements are 2 years. I took a year of German also. So thats more than 2 years, but not the same language. Would I still need to take another foreign language? If so, will I have to take the next level, or start over? I am typing this in a hurry, so sorry.

For transfer you need to meet the prerequisites including required math at time you transfer. Doing it in 5 semesters rather than 4 should not make much difference but be aware that the D in trig will be on your record and can be considered in determining admission as a transfer even though you have done a retake.

Not sure what you are saying on language: is that semesters you took in high school or college? So here are rules for college of engineering (which has computer science):

For admission as a freshman, UIUC requires that you have completed four semesters (2 years) of the same foreign language, thus your combo of spanish and german , if high school, does not work.

That same minimum is required for admission as a transfer. However, to graduate from UIUC engineering, at the college level, you need to have credit through the third semester, college, of the same foreign language. That can be met by either having 3 years in high school of a single language, or, if you had less in high school, completion of what is designated the third semester of a foreign language in college. If you have completed that third semester of college foreign language, the fact that you did not have 2 years of the same foreign language in high school becomes irrelevant because you will have completed what the college wants on the college level. Though having completed that college level foreign language requirement is not designated as absolutely necessary to be able to transfer, it is highly recommended that you complete it before transfer, and if you have not completed it that can be considered against you in determining whether to admit you as a transfer.
