UIUC or IU? Please help!

I am a rising senior from Illinois and I am going in to business (finance). I have the grades and scores to easily get into both schools, and with scholarships from IU the prices would be about the same (UIUC is instate but still expensive).

I know IU is technically a better business school but it is much easier to get into and is less prestigious of a university. Everyone says the kids who go to IU from my school are the kids that got denied from UIUC.

So my question is which university should I attend for a more successful future? I plan on working in the chicago area so I feel like UIUC would be better for that, but IU kelley has the better education even though UIUC is more prestigious and harder to get into. Or are they equal enough to where it doesn't matter? Please help.

A direct admit to Kelley is very prestigious, as far as CC goes. I do think that UIUC is a great school, but in the grand scheme of things, there is not that big of a difference overall in prestige. Why not apply and see which is the best financial deal. You will find a very similar campus experience at both locations.

Thanks for the reply. Would UIUC be better for internships and a job in Chicago?

Honestly, the two are close enough in rank/prestige that your decision should come down to which of the two will be a better fit for you. I wouldn’t go to IU just because the business school is ranked higher; UIUC is also in the top 50 (according to Businessweek IU is 18 and UIUC is 30) and as you mentioned, you likely would have a better opporunity to get a job/internship in Chicago at UIUC.

I do think for Chicago internships that UIUC is probably better, but I know a lot of the Chicago kids that attend IU do summer internships in Chicago as well. Why not visit both and see which one feels better. FWIW, Indiana economy hasn’t suffered as much as Illinois. They did cut the OOS auto merit aid this year however.

Take a look at the size of the B Schools. I think IU is larger which means more competition for grades and jobs.
