Hi internet strangers. I was recently accepted, and have a few Qs about the freshman dorm life.
-Are there communal kitchens in the freshman dorms? I know some schools have like one per floor but not sure about UM.
-Are you allowed your own microwaves? Mini fridges? Toasters?
-Furniture (ie futons)?
-Moldy/mustiness of the freshman rooms (I’m allergic).?

How is housing priority determined?
No, there are not communal kitchens in Stanford or Hecht. You are allowed to have a mini fridge and microwave, but no toasters or hotplates. If you loft the bed, then a futon can fit beneath. Regarding mustiness, it’s South Florida and the buildings are old. I’m not sure how often the air ducts are cleaned, but I have read that some kids with allergy issues put air purifiers in their rooms.
