UMass Amherst 2023 Decisions

I was impressed that URI sent an email stating that they had 15,000 EA applications, and they were releasing all of the decisions on 1/21/19. We’ll see!

@KamandaLobomo I hope you get some good news soon. I really feel for everyone who is still waiting. What a crazy process.

For what it is worth…my Boston area son applied in September to the University of MN Twin Cities. Traditionally, they turn decisions around quickly…and that was one of the reasons he applied; it is low on his list. We are now sitting in January and nothing. I’m eating crow since I told him to apply to get an early answer in his back pocket. This isn’t just a UMass problem. #DadFails

@Myson congratulations to your son.

Your comment “In his interview with a Brown Alum it was inter-mated that he would be a great fit for Brown however he didn’t bring any ethnic adversary so case closed.”

There are lots of students who are a great fit through the lense of a Brown alumni interviewer. They are neither provided with the students application or the context of seeing other students profiles side by side. I am sure your kid is a great kid but the interviewer has very little insight or input. Your son I am sure is impressive and interviewers want to be polite.

Your conclusion however that he was rejected based on “not providing ethnic diversity” is just flat out wrong and insulting to those that did get in (more than 50% of whom are Caucasian. He got beaten out by another white kid with either better stats, grades, ECs or all of the above.

Your son got in to some great schools but none with nearly the same addmisions standards or low acceptance rate as Brown.

Simply stated he got rejected because other kids in his cohort had applications that were more compelling. Brown annually rejects roughly 80% of the 2,000 plus valedictorians that apply and roughly 93% of the 45,000 kids that apply and literally thousands of kids with perfect test scores. U Mass Amherst and Lowell in state acceptance rates are in the mid to high 50% range. Getting in is laudable be compared to Ivy addmissions we are talking apples versus oranges.

Declaring in a public forum that your son was declined based on race makes him sound like a victim and suggests that the students that got accepted did so based on their ethnicity. It is both factually and provably wrong (given other “non diversity additive” kids got in) and unethical for you to ease your disappointment by diminishing the achievements and qualifications of other students.

Good luck to your son.

Does anyone think that more decisions will be released later today?

They have to release them at some point…after a month of refreshing the admissions portal every 5 minutes, I’m thinking a decision will never come out! Trying to remain optimistic and wishing all of my fellow waiters good luck!

Admissions portal? I’ve been checking my daughter’s email every 5 minutes…I thought they send an email. Please give me a new option to alternate between! :frowning:

There was an email sent shortly after applying that was titled UMass Amherst: Follow-up on your application. They provided a link to the “student-status page” along with username and pin. You could probably call admissions if you no longer have the email and link…

Looking through last year’s forum alot of people seemed to get their decisions around 6:00 today (10’th) so we’ll see!Its safe to say I’ve been refreshing my email for the last hour

I sure hope so… Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for good news!

Anyone? I was so hoping that it’s today but I guess it’s not

Another day of waiting and no answer…

Nope. At least we can be reasonably certain we should hear something no later than early next week.

Its honestly getting really frustrating at this point

I don’t understand why the wait is taking so long. It’s so irritating to keep refreshing my email and not have a decision especially since so many people at my school have already gotten in.

Still waiting,too! I hear you!

I called admissions with a question concerning how they will handle all of the early action candidates that still have not received a decision with regular admissions approaching. My question was since the regular admissions deadline is Tuesday January 15th and many of the EA people might not have a decision sent to them by that date, what happens then. She said that each group is treated separately. My concern was if your EA decision gets deferred to the Regular group would they then miss the January 15 date since they would not have a decision yet. I also got the I DO NOT KNOW answer on when they expect to complete ALL of the EA decisions. And the beat goes on…

I would have to say that UMass Amherst has the worst process of all the schools I have applied to. I applied to larger universities and already received my decision. Also the fact that they hire temps to review the applications is unsettling.

@FreshBizParent Did they say they were going to keep the commitment of notifying all EA applicants by Mid-January as per this email excerpt sent on December 6th…"…The UMass Amherst Office of Undergraduate Admissions will begin releasing decisions for Early Action applicants during the week of December 10, 2018. Not all decisions are released at the same time. We will continue to release them throughout December and into the first part of January…"

They have not released decisions that I’ve heard of since the last week of December. This is ridiculous to me. Last year, some applicants received acceptances throughout the first week of January as seen from last year’s thread. While we’re stuck here waiting!!
