This wait is physically hurting me
Nothing!
Nothing here yet either. They would save us all a lot of anxiety and frustration by doing what URI and so many other colleges do. Just announce a date in January on which they will release all decisions. So simple.
My daughter applied to six schools, all early action, and she has five acceptances. Guess which school she still haste’ heard from?
FYI the email to sign up for the accepted student days in February went out last night to students already accepted so I would think any remaining notifications would be done soon.
Applying here has been an eye opening experience for me. As a state resident I find it utterly frustrating that my own state university treats its in state applicants so poorly. The fact that international students and then out of state students are considered prior to its own residents is appalling. Although given the recent release of the salaries I can now see why their application fee is so much higher than even some of the private colleges and universities and the need to admit out of state and international students is necessary to keep up with the ridiculous salaries. I also intend to reach out to our elected officials and encourage them to investigate why in state students are held to higher admission requirements. Seems a bit discriminatory to me. Perhaps I will not only participate in my first protest at Umass, I can also organize it.
Literally just got off the phone with admissions. I asked when the next batch of decisions would go out. The response was “I don’t know”, but everyone will have a decision by the end of the month!!! Unbelievable Umass
…not impressed.
I am generally the last to lose my patience and get angry, but hearing by the end of the month has pushed me over the edge.
It is so frustrating how they handle it, like I applied 4 months ago and really don’t want to keep waiting weeks for bad news… im pretty convinced at this point that i’m not gonna get in, even though I did a pre-college program there :. Their admissions process causes so much unnecessary stress and anxiety for us seniors who are already stressed about plenty of other things.
@bizymum ….agreed, frustrating, not because of reasonable delays but over-committing and not following through on written commitments…if you recall the email many if not all who are waiting received on December 6th …“The UMass Amherst Office of Undergraduate Admissions will begin releasing decisions for Early Action applicants during the week of December 10, 2018. Not all decisions are released at the same time. We will continue to release them throughout December and into the first part of January.” There has been no communication since that time. I hope this is not another example of a University waiting to see if they need to fill open spots before they offer acceptance to those that may be on the bubble. This is true of other large, popular Universities throughout the country. Penn State is doing the same thing as UMASS Amherst as it pertains to their EA applicants. They promised decisions by December 24th to all EA applicants, then communicated that they had record applications, over 70,000, and could not get to everyone until December 31st. There has been no decisions sent since December 24th. At least PSU is not saying “we don’t know”!
@pama3115 Did Penn State have record applications? Or UMass? Our D got into Penn Sate, but still waiting for UMass… We are OOS for both.
@blueswede PSU had over 70,000 applications and admitted that they could not even view or evaluate all of them before the December 24th notification date. The colleges at PSU such as Smeal Business and Engineering are very competitive and unless you had very very high SAT stats, you were deferred to the Dec 31st date. To what college did you apply, and what are your stats.
@pama3115 Daughters stats are 3.6 GPA and 1250 SAT. Graduating early this week. We are European, lived in several countries. Admitted to Penn State for Communications. But stats are not everything, colleges hopefully see the whole picture. Still hoping for UMass, even though we think it will be somewhat of a stretch.
I applied UMass as EA and I never heard any results yet while my classmate applied as RD few days ago and she got in this morning. ??? How does administration office work???
I got my EA notification over a month ago, you should get in touch with them @Siiisss
3rd of december to be exact, accepted to the school of engineering with some 16k scholarship
The UMASS Admissions Website (in my opinion) purposefully “DOES NOT” commit to a certain date for communication of all EA decisions; it just provides a start date for release of decisions. Those deferred to RD will not get a decision until early March…also like other Universities, a Decision to Defer your decision is still considered fulfilling a commitment to provide a DECISION. UMASS is no different than many other Universities who are or have become popular choices for In-and OOS prospective students.
FROM UMASS ADMISSIONS WEBSITE:
Freshman: Early Action (Fall)
Admission decisions will be communicated beginning in mid-December. There are three possible decisions for Early Action applicants:
Students may be offered admission for the fall term, contingent on successful completion of the senior year. They will have until May 1 to decide whether to enroll at UMass Amherst.
A select group of students will be deferred to the Regular Decision applicant pool. We will reexamine these students in the context of the entire pool, taking into account mid-year grades and other new academic information.
We may make the difficult decision to deny some students whose academic records are not competitive within the overall applicant pool. A deny decision at the EA stage is final.
Freshman: Regular Decision (Fall & Spring)
Admission decisions will be communicated beginning in early March for fall applicants and by mid-December for spring applicants.
Does anyone know if there have been any EA decisions over the past week of so?
@SnowBunnyMom if some of the past posts are correct then tomorrow will be the 3 week mark since the last decision batch on 12/26 that was released. What is going on with admissions? Poor customer service and even worst communication to families looking to send 100’s of thousands of dollars over the next few years is just bad business. They need to be better.
Wow…that’s a long time with no action! Hope they are not planning on carrying us over to regular admissions, but that’s what it feels like. I was told that they would at least notify us if that was their plan.It is difficult to be positive with so much time passing.
