UMASS Amherst Decisions 2022

In my HS, CP is an automatic A (without a doubt). One could take all CP classes and have a 4.0 EASILY. not recommended.
It offers CP, ACP, Honors, and AP(in 11th and 12th).
The standard classes are ACP and Honors.
Top 25% take all Honors. At least 2-3 hours homework per night --5% of these students enjoy the work, the other 20 have their parents standing over them.

Does anybody know my chances of getting into nursing with a 4.3 gpa and a 1480 SAT (710 english, 770 math)

let me add that 65% take all ACP
10% take CP

@CompSci2018 ; my D got the Adam Abigail too, and it’s only about $1700 a year, just like @Anthony185 and @FoxWarrior said. I agree that each individual has different situation and takes different approach and decision in investment in education. Also want to add, D got Honor College at UML (not in Amherst) and got $4k for coop/study aboard on top of the free tuition&fee.

@wheatonmom I am simply stating that something is completely wrong with how this is presented and it’s misleading. If I took all honors in 9th and 10th because I did and got all A’s (I did not) my gpa would be a 4.0 correct? Since my high school doesn’t offer AP only IB and IB is equal to AP in difficulty all of my IB classes should be weighted up 1 point, correct? I am required to take at least 5 IB classes in 11th and 12th. I have 6 and nothing else.

Using the Umass calculations if the best student at my high school has an unweighted 4.0 GPA and got all A’s (not A+'s) but took 2 years of all honors level and 2 years of all IB level their weighted gpa using the formula that Umass put on their website must be at least 4.75 on a 4.0 scale. That’s what doesn’t make sense because many kids at a traditional high school could duplicate this by taking all honors and taking all AP junior and senior year. In other words Umass must be re-weighting on 5.0 scale to get an average GPA of 3.89 and an average SAT score of only 1283 because using the Umass calculator the highest possible GPA would be 5.08

@payasugo I’m unaware of any high school that can offer AP classes every year from freshman year on, so I don’t see how someone could have 5.0GPA. At our school, freshman and sophomores really don’t have any AP classes offered to them. Most tippy top students take all accelerated (one level down from AP here) and earn an extra a maximum of 4.5 for the class if they get an A.

@wheatonmom There are some AP classes offered to sophomores in my local high school so it is possible. I did consider that into my calculations that only honors level is what most can kids take in 9th and 10th. It’s just they say 3.89 on a 4.0 scale and that doesn’t make any sense if honors, AP and IB are weighted up. They make it sound like you have to be a near straight A student to be admitted and that’s not accurate unless you load up on CP or less than CP and then you will likely to flunk out before Columbus day.

Agreed the 3.89 is not on a 4.0 scale!

Any acceptances today?

Nope- hopefully they’re posting today!!

Getting nervous that they haven’t released any yet!

I might be worse than my D, with the waiting.

Me too

Gotta wait

There should be more today.

S received admission decision yesterday. Under major it states Undecided - Business Track. He applied to Isenberg SOM - Finance. It is a bit unclear but I’m guessing that he got in but not to Isenberg. We will be following up with admissions but looking to see if anyone else received similar response and what it means. Checked UMass website and best I can find is information regarding the Exploratory Track Program. Information is a bit thin on what it means to go through that program and get into Isenberg at a future date. 1330 SAT and 4.0W GPA.

I’m hoping they are releasing more today?? :-S

Finance is most difficult major I think.

S is waiting to hear back about Isenberg status. He already was accepted into several private schools with merit packages that make them equal/competitive to UMASS. We consider UMASS a Safety School (Financially Speaking). Going to a private school for the cost of UMASS is a nice option. S 3.7 GPA, 1340 SAT, 3 Varsity Sports and many other extracurriculars.

@WorkingDad what private schools gave that much merit aid? or do you mean total aid? for a student with your S’s stats?
