@DMM2022 unfortunately, you are correct, you son was not admitted into Isenberg. However, in the exploratory track, he will be able to take predictor courses (calculus, economics, etc.) that if he does well, he would have no problem transferring in after his freshman year.
@lbmass1010 thanks for the information. I figured as much. I know things have changed a bit but I went to UMass in the late 80’s and had a good friend who was in a similar position. He had to hit certain benchmarks as far as coursework and minimum GPA’s in some classes. Sounds similar to exploratory track now. When he applied to SOM at end of sophomore year he missed by a half grade in a class and didn’t get in. Ended up transferring to Babson where he received his MBA as well. Loss for UMass in that case! Rather not see S go through the same but we will weigh all options.
has anyone gotten accepted into Isenberg out of state yet?
accepted into isenberg!
-30 ACT
-4.0 GPA, unweighted and weighted
-many ECs, over 200 hours in volunteer service
-OOS
@collegegal148 congrats! Did you just get the email?
@payasugo you’re looking at the SAT and GPA issue all wrong. 1280 is well above average and fits with the GPA required. It is not Ivy level but represents what it takes to get into a fairly competitive state school that looks for students with very good test scores and a wide variety of standardized test scores. By the way, the parent with the 1180 kid can still be proud as that is an above average score and the kid’s a good student.
@3times3 I agree 1280 is above average and it’s a bit higher than mine. My complaint is that there are about 700 different ways calculate GPA and a person with a 4.0 at their high school may or may not actually have a 4.0 or an A average as calculated by the standard set by the state. I also think it is misleading for Umass to write on their website that last years incoming class had an average GPA of 3.86 on a 4.0 scale when AP classes are weighted a full point up and an honors class is given .5 weight up. If we are being realistic a 3.86 gpa is closer to B or B+ average and so is a 1280 SAT score. I am not knocking any of this because that pretty close to where I am.
Sooooo … any chance decisions are still coming out today?
I’m wondering the same thing… was really hoping they would release some!
I am going to take advantage of the fact that nobody can see my name and conclude that at on a Friday before a three day weekend they probably had a half day, so my vote is no.
i got emailed yesterday, just saw it today
thank you… he is taking AP Economics, AP Stats , and Honors calculus…all with an average over 95…would not wnat to pay for him to take these classes again
Late night decisions?
lol late night decisions would be interesting… have they done them in the past? Also, does anyone think we will hear from them this weekend?
Doubt any will come during the weekend- don’t think it has happened before.
Am I the only one who hasn’t gotten a decision yet for isenberg oos?
I guess I’m on the same boat as a lot of you here but my friend got into UMass Dec 14 and I’ve unfortunately not heard back from them and I’m kind of worried it’s bad news so is anyone still waiting??
@Menmar what major did you apply for? Are you IS or OOS?
Seems like they sent many international decsions out first, then it looks like they hit CS majors, then business, etc. so it at least appears they are somewhat issuing decisions by major and maybe location (although i do know some IS & OOS applicants have heard, seems like mostly OOS early)
My son is in state communications major BTW, still waiting. Hoping, he still has a shot!
Good luck to you, keep fingers crossed.
My son was very strategic in his applications. He chose schools that were known nationally and had a history of giving generous merit scholarships. The schools giving merit were Hofstra, St Joeseph’s U, Seton Hal, Fairfield, etc…
If you haven’t received anything yet I wouldn’t be overly worried that you aren’t in as most majors haven’t heard back yet (i.e. Natural Sciences haven’t, nursing, and a lot of just the standard liberal arts majors) also, if you’re still waiting for Isenberg they received so many applications that it wouldn’t surprise me if they haven’t gone through all of them yet! Stay positive and excited!
