UMass Amherst - Please help!

Hello everyone.

My career center advisor recently told me that I should consider applying to UMass Amherst since I am looking for another safety school.

However, I do not have any knowledge about the school, but I have read about it online and it seems like a great place to be.
It has a culturally diverse student body, well known honors college, and great social scene.

I was wondering if any parents/students can provide any insight on what the school is like or anything you simply loved/despised about it.

ALSO,
If anyone could tell me the liklihood of me getting a scholarship with them since i am out of state and cannot afford to pay that tuition.

UW GPA: 3.3 (low but my schedule is mainly honors and AP's)
W GPA: 3.86
ACT: 29
ACT superscore: 30

extracirriculars are also strong and defintely by strength, as well as my essay. hoping that my test scores, essay, and extracirriculars make up for my gpa.

thank you all! :)

You should definitely apply. I am a senior in HS and it is currently my top school. I think that you have a pretty good chance, depending on the major. I would not consider it a safety school though. UMass has slowly been becoming a better school, even though it is still not quite a top tier school. Your test scores should push you into the school, but there wont be much aid given. UMass gives fairly little money, since it it a state school. Good luck

I think you’ll get in but you don’t have a great chance at significant scholarship.

I second that, I think you’ll get in with all those AP’s, however, I think your stats are not too far from average. Last years average student had a GPA of 3.78 and an ACT of 27 and was in the top 18% of their class. Given that things keep improving I would speculate that this year’s ACT will go up to 28 and the average GPA may move up a point or two so in reality your slightly above average, however, given the quantity of AP’s you took I’m sure/pretty sure you’ll get in… I just wouldn’t bet on a huge scholarship as TJCMA5 said. (PS- Also look into the NE Regional Program that gives a tuition discount considering you live in one of the states involved)

Hope this helps!

Agree with all of the above. UMass is slowing increasing the # of OOS students as a revenue source.
