UMich housing: Sorry for the trouble...

Hi i need help picking out housing and was wondering if anyone(especially current students) can offer any advice. Im a male freshaman, engineering major and need a double room of decent size not too cramped and possibly a room where the beds are not bunked. I was thinking of Baits, Bursely and Cambridge. To be very frank its cos of the bathrooms. (im a little squeemish and a little worried) If you have any pro's /con's about the three please help. Also, any suggestions with reasons would be good!

Thanks

Avoid North. I'd go for Central (SQ, WQ, Cambridge, EQ) or Hill campus (Mo-Jo, Markley, Alice-Lloyd) in that order.

In Baits you share the bathroom with only 3 others as compared as to community bathrooms in the other dorms. You'll have to clean it up on your own though. Although comm bathrooms aren't that big of a deal.
You could try for an apartment too.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you won't likely get to choose where you live. You put down the preference for which campus you want to live on, and that's about it. As a freshman engineer, you're most likely to be in Bursley or Baits, and most likely in Bursley.

There you'll get a decently sized double. You don't have to bunk beds. There's enough space for beds, desks, and closets and what not to be around just fine. I wouldn't be too worried about the bathroom situation. Everyone is scared of communal bathrooms at first, but they're actually quite acceptable. They're cleaned every day; they're pretty large and you won't ever have to wait to use it.

I've read, don't choose North unless you are an engineering major. It takes around 15 minutes to get from NOrth to Central (which is where practically everything is).

Although if you really did want Baits(for some vague reason), I'm sure anyone in there would be willing to do a room swap!

can anyone elaborate why there is such a negative attitude towards Baits?? I mean real info...
Thanks.

It's fairly isolated from everywhere else. Not only is it on north campus, but it's at the end of the line for buses and fairly far away from say, the engineering campus. It's surprsingly distant even from Bursley. And it's made up of small, discrete buildings with a few rooms in each, so you don't get all the sense of community you do in a large dorm, like Bursley. The residents of Baits also have a reputation (possibly unfair) of not being terribly social or outgoing.

Also it doesn't have its own dining cafeteria which means for all meals you'll have to make the 5 minute walk to Bursley which is not fun in the cold.
