Umich Transfer Thread: Winter 2018

my app is complete, I called they said it is under review. @rlee9439 and the other required materials section is empty.

How many people got accepted? kind of curious

@Wolverinewinter18 Then you’re probably gonna hear back really soon! Mine is still not under review ):

@rlee9439 when did you submit and what are your stats? I’m a 3.76 from CC and I’m really scared its not good enough. Plus, I have an Associates Degree, I don’t know if that helps at all.

@Wolverinewinter18 mine got submitted 8/23 and I have a 3.98 at a CC rn with 62 credits by the end of the semester

@Elliotabcde I also have Sarah Rice. How do you know she’s been out of her office and for how long?

@DetroitFan81 @Wolverinewinter18 Because I sent her an email yesterday but this morning she replied me again and said I will get my decision soon. So nervous now lol.

hi all, I just ended a chat with the undergraduate admissions office. They said that it isn’t rolling for transfers but the quicker the application is complete, the better because they will be marked as complete and be ready for review by Oct 2 rather than waiting a few more weeks for everything to be in. also, I asked about the admission counselor making the decision, they said the admission counselor and one more “higher” person are the two that review the application and decide. They also said an applicant with a GPA of 3.5 or higher at Junior standing is very competitive.
Hope that helps!

anyone apply into kines

Has anybody applied as a new freshman for winter 2018 with 0 credits? I applied coming from a service academy but 0 credits and I’m not sure how competitive I am. I know most kids applying for winter 2018 with 0 credits are gap semester students and I wasn’t taking taking a gap, I was active duty military.

@Elliotabcde oh gotcha thanks. I hate the word soon though. It could meen like anytime within the next month.

-Applied 9-21-17 for CoE
-Cumulative GPA: 3.49
-COE Pre-req GPA: 3.10
-Applied from UM-D according to 2+2 TA with prefered admission, First Semester Sophomore
-12/11 Pre-Req classes + one 400 level guided research “course”

COE Transfer Counselor: E. Schmitt

Haven’t heard anything as of yet, but i called a couple of times and they said that for rolling admission for UM, they still don’t review the apps until all are in. The admissions counselors are usually on tour for the entirety of October and wont be back until November-ish. However, most of the people here that already got accepted are if some counselors return for “emergency reasons?” How do i kno dis? overheard it from a friend’s friend who works in the admissions building.

Also, for future reference, if you’re transferring from Dearborn for engineering, make sure to ask your STEM counselor for the transfer agreement between AA and Dearborn. If you dont pester them for it, they wont give it to you lol.
GPA requirement for COE are a baseline of 3.0 gpa calculated with ONLY pre-req classes. Meaning classes that don’t transfer are thrown out the window when they calculate your GPA.

oh also dont take ECE 273 if you dont have to, it transfers as EECS 270. The class is so hard it has a 50% drop rate and is NOT worth screwing your GPA.

@Abigaillaine At a Transfer Tuesday they said that they usually want to see 2-4 semesters in a college/university. You should call and ask them about it.

Transfer Stats for FALL 2017 are 35% acceptance rate. 9% higher than the 26% acceptance rate for regular admissions: https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/freshmen-applicants/student-profile

@Wolverinewinter18 Are you sure they said it wasnt rolling admissions for transferring? I ask only because they told me it was at a Transfer Tuesday, and on my Transfer Agreement. o.O

@cosmicpotato I don’t know, everyone told me something different. At transfer Tuesday they told me rolling too. So are all the counselors out, is that why we didn’t get decisions yet?

And is that pre req gpa only for engineering?? Bc I have an Associates and I know not all classes are going to transfer but I’m hoping they’ll use all of them when counting my GPA.

@Wolverinewinter18 Yeah, i asked an engineering advisor when they visited dearborn in january, they’re on tour visiting high schools in october and dont come back till the 1st week of november. The guys that already got their admissions are usually if they come back for “reasons” or are back early.

Also yes, the Pre-Req GPA is only for the College of Engineering. I know that LSA doesnt do Pre-Req GPAs, not sure about any of the other schools though.

Oh ok, I feel a little better. I’m so worried because I have a gap before I started CC and my gpa is only 3.76.

oh okay, can i ask what school of UM you’re applying to?

LSA
