UMN Twin Cities admissions

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me, I’m wondering what my chances are at UMN Twin Cities. I’m hoping to major in KInesiology in CEHD. I have a 25 ACT score (23E,31R,29S,26M) and a 3.1 U/W GPA. During my freshman and sophomore years, I went through some adversities and it killed my GPA. I got straight A’s Junior and Senior years. I have one legacy with my mom getting her masters at the U. I have good EC’s (2 Part-time jobs, 2 Varsity sports, Volunteer hours in community and Church involvement) I’m taking two concurrent enrollment classes this year and one CIS class, I will have 10 college credits when I graduate. I have never taken any AP or Honors classes…

Thank you!

Hi @caramelapple12 Your ACT is good and within the range for CEHD, however your GPA is a little bit lower than the average. That being said, you do say you faced some adversities and you clearly have shown what you’re capable of. I think you have a very good chance of being admitted into the program/college at the U. Not taking any AP or honors might hurt you slightly, but I don’t think it will do that much in the long run.

Best of luck on your college application journey!

Update- I got Deferred, What should I do??

Did you get deferred or waitlisted? Also what college within the school did you apply to? What are your stats?

@Jay101 I applied Regular Decision, and I got waitlisted. I applied to CEHD, my stats are on the first post of this thread.

Same I also got waitlisted so im waiting. I heard that acceptance rate for waitlist is much higher this year

I read that they might accept everyone on the waitlist this year. They are expecting a 20% decline in the freshman class, 20% decline in transfers, 50% retention for international graduate and 10% decline of continuing students.

@airway1 where did you get that information?

A regent recommended they accept all waitlisted students… The numbers of the worst scenario is terrible. Wonder how smaller schools will deal with this

@airway1 problem is UMN is not a small school, UMN is considered on the very big side of schools

I got off of the waitlist yesterday!

@caramelapple12 congrats! Great news!

same here! i got off the waitlist and got in

Congratulations! Are you in state or out of state?

I am instate

Did you do the appeal at all? or did you contact the U to talk to them about your waitlist decision at first?

@Jay101 no I did not appeal, the appeal is just for new information like a new act score or a serious life event happed after you submitted your app. I did email admissions a few times and had a phone call with the admissions counselor. writing a letter of continued interest will not help as it is a secondary factor and wouldnt make a difference
