@martintrevor Hey man, I feel like you and me have pretty similar stats and also attend fairly comparable schools (I’m currently at Indiana University- Bloomington, have a 3.6, 1840 SAT, good EC’s, 4.1 weighted HS GPA, and fairly strong essays). I have been told I have a pretty good shot and I think you do as well!
@howsmydriving I think you have a really good chance. Your SAT score and ECs are really good. I played four years of varsity baseball and two years of football and basketball and currently play baseball in college so I know how time consuming that is. The only thing that might hurt you is your college GPA but with your other stats you’ll be fine
How god awful is it if you don’t have a letter of recommendation?
@Jdrew153 The recommendation isn’t required. What they told me is that they’ve seen successful students both with and without recommendations. If there was a week point in your application, a LOR helps, but it’s not the end of the world if you didn’t get one.
@isuncforme493 I have two LOR so I’m curious. Is what you’re basically saying that having a LOR can help but not having one can’t hurt?
@isuncforme493 okay cool, I was a little worried about that. I was just hoping that it wouldn’t hurt me. Thank tou
@BryantB02 They consider all the pieces of your application, as long as all the required materials have been submitted. Having a good recommendation or two will give the application another dimension, and may fill a gap or back up something from the essays/transcripts. Not having a LOR won’t take away from the application in a direct sense. At least that’s what they told me when I visited last fall.
Everyone check your emails and fill out your self-reported transcripts! It took me like half an hour.
Also, does anyone know if they take these worksheets into account during the admissions process? (http://admissions.unc.edu/files/2016/07/Admitted-Transfer-Student-Quick-Guide-Biology-7.27.16.pdf) I technically won’t have Organic 2 done before transferring but I plan on having it done by the fall. I know they have a lower than desired graduation rate for transfer students and I’m scared they’ll see this as a disadvantage if they don’t know my plan.
Did anyone get this email? I just got it today. I already self-reported my grades on the Common app but apparently they have their own internal method too.
Dear xxx,
Thank you for submitting your application for admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We require all transfer applicants to submit a list of completed and in-progress college courses. To submit this information, please go to your ConnectCarolina Student Center Admissions Items To Do List, and click on “Transfer courses.”
For each college you attended, please list each of your completed and in-progress courses. List the courses as they appear on your transcript, and submit an official transcript from each college to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. For in-progress courses, select “No Report (Not Received)”.
If you are admitted, we will confirm these self-reported courses based on your official transcript and will email you a summary of the transfer credit you are eligible to receive.
For additional information on transfer credit, please visit our transfer credit website.
We appreciate your interest in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and we look forward to reading your application. If you have any questions, please reply to this email or call us at (919) 966-3621.

@coleman4 The link in connect Carolina brings you to a page that allows you to search for all classes that have been previously transferred to UNC. Filling it out speeds up the process of receiving a transfer credit report, so do it as soon as possible.
@coleman4 , @isuncforme493 I want lie and say I was excited about this self-reporting email. It seems like we have already done this.I have access to all of the needed course info except one course that I I will have to send off for a transcript. I agree with that it will make things quicker on UNC’s end and more efficient to have the applicant input the data into their system.
@coleman4: I just received the same email. And I quickly finished my report in 20 minutes.
Do you think we have to enter classes we know will not transfer? I have a D in a class from 6 years ago I rather not include. It’ll show on the transcripts so it’s not like I’m hiding it.
@KendraScholar my guess is yes just because it would be on the transcript anyways and they’ll see it regardless
@KendraScholar cholar I think in this case you just need to follow the directive given. Although they will probably use the course info we input for our transfer credit report. There are other things they will probably use the course info for. By not including the D in this requested form does not make it go away. On the other hand including it, I don’t think will effect you any more of less than it has already.
Does anyone else have completely nonsensical subjects to choose from for the self-reported courses? My subjects are things like V34 and A12, and I have no idea how to input my courses.
Don’t dwell on the past. They’ll focus on what you have done lately.
@yoshimax are you referring to trying to click the magnifying glass to search for classes and they not being there?
It allows you to type your courses in. You could email an advisor as well.
