Does anyone know if transfer students can still live in Granville?
There aren’t any rules that wouldn’t allow you live there. Transfers are eligible to live anywhere on campus. I will say that it can be difficult to get good housing as a transfer. I would think it would possible to get a room at Granville.
@TranslationLost I think I would have a hard time passing the English language test, let alone a foreign one.
But thanks for all your help!
@TranslationLost I have a few questions about housing. Do you live on or off campus? Can you give some insight into staying off campus? How was the process of finding a place to live? Also when did you start looking for housing and then move to Chapel Hill once accepted?
Am I the only one doubting myself the closer we get to decisions? I threw all my eggs into one basket, aka unc, and there are a million things I wish I could have done to help my application now that it’s submitted. I assume this is normal but idk what I’ll do if I have to choose a different college. I’m not ready to move out of state and other instate colleges just don’t have a competitive program in the degree I want. I spent two years preparing for this and it’s out of my hands now. Sheesh. lol
I was waitlisted last year and have improved tremendously on my application. But I feel still no more confident either, so your are not the only one. It is what it is. I was accepted to ECU today, so it helps alieviate some pressure of all the eggs in one basket. I am still dead set on chapel hill and if its meant to happen then it will. It would most definitely feel like I have accomplished something great to get into an awesome school. Cross our fingers.
I’m extremely nervous. Mainly because of one of my GPAs and because I didn’t apply last year but I had committed to play baseball and I’m afraid that’ll hurt me. Sometimes I stay up so late because I’m so nervous. With my current situation, I have to get into unc. It’s definitely my dream school. Good luck to you guys!!
I was waitlisted last year too, but everything works out for the best. Even if things don’t work out, you’ll get where you need to be eventually. It really blew not getting in, but it builds some serious character.
@KendraScholar I think everyone has that one part of their essay that they wish they could go back and edit. I think the best thing to do is to try to distract yourself for now. I watch movies while I fall asleep so I don’t stay up overthinking. Just simple distractions. Tell yourself you will be happy wherever you end up, even if it is a bit of a lie to yourself. I think that really ruined things for me, graduating high school after junior year and not even getting the chance to apply to my dream schools. I’ve found the more that I think about other options, the more content I get with them. A positive outlook leads to a positive experience.
@uncletmein2017
I live on campus. I am not going to say exactly where though for obvious reasons. I can’t speak to off-campus housing much. There are some great and cheap housing options only a bus ride away. I highly recommend trying to live on campus your first year, especially if you have never lived on a campus before. I would recommend Mid-campus or North campus. Do NOT live anywhere on South campus. That’s where they put all of the first year students. In terms of timelines, once you are accepted there will be a timeline and checklist to follow. Current students have already selected housing.
On another note, I highly recommend people check out the Residence Learning Programs. There are great programs for lots of different things. For example, in Carmichael they have a specific RLP for junior transfer students.
I hope that answers your questions!
Classes labeled “first-year transfer students only” : are they for transfers in their first year at unc or transfers who are entering as first years?
I don’t know specifically which class you’re referring to, but UNC holds spots in certain classes for first years and for transfers. Usually it is one or the other. I have never seen one that has spots for both. It may happen though.
I think first year transfer students are people who don’t have enough transfer credits that roll over? At least that’s how I’ve understood it because they only accept transfers in the fall. Also, I’ve just told myself I’m transferring somewhere else so I won’t drive myself crazy even though I’m dead set on UNC. That way if I get in it’ll just be a nice surprise.
@gwil7897 what are you stats? and what year are you?
Since my last waitlist I have averaged about 3.5 Gpa. But that’s because I received a C in organic chemistry.

@johnpfc3 I’m a current freshman and would be a music major. My stats are on page 17 of the thread. I wrote out like a short paragraph (haha) to explain all my info.
Mind chancing me while we wait? Thanks so much! The wait is killing me the closer we get…
I’m trying to be a sophomore transfer. I come from a small, public, Alabama university. My current major is Computer Science, and I plan to continue that if I get into UNC
High School GPA (UW): 4.0

ACT: 33
College GPA: 4.0 (First semester)

-Association for Computing & Machinery (Member)
-Model United Nations (Member)
-Mock Trials (Member)

@gwil7897 I was also born at 28 weeks and had some of the similar health problems that you had. I definitely know the struggle. You can compare stats if you’d like
@passByReference: My major is computer science too. Your ACT and GPA give you great chance if I don’t look at yours letter of recommendation.
@passByReference I think that you have a really good chance with your GPA and test scores. The only thing is that we truly have no idea about our chances. If you look through the transfer thread from last year, you’ll see that people with good grades and test scores didn’t get in and those with lower grades and tests scores did. I think you have a good chance but like I said, we don’t know so don’t take it to heart
