I am curious about how the nutrition program works at UNC. The information on their website (UNC School of Public Health - Nutrition) is confusing.

It seems like the basic degree is the Bachelor of Science in Public Health with four possible subcategories (bio statistics, environmental sciences, health policy & management, and nutrition). I am would be interested in the BSPH in Nutrition, but it says you have to apply for the program after your first two years. Is this true? If so, how competitive is it. It seems weird that there would be an application process (with 3 recs!) just to get a bachelors degree. It also says they only have 33 students in the bachelor's program. That would mean only like 8 students are admitted each year! How is this possible??

From there I might be interested in the Master of Science in Nutritional Biochemistry. How many years does this take? And it says they only admit 2-3 students for this program. Admissions must be super-uber-unbelievably competitive...............?

I just don't understand how the whole program works and how anybody can get in unless they are super experienced or already have other degrees or whatnot.

Thanks for any info you can provide.
