UNC Class of 2020 EA Discussion Thread

@lvmjac1 Did people talk about it before in the 2019 thread and it being a sign of something?

^^ I just read most of last years thread and there was lots of chatter about the portal but it seemed like everyone had the same thing. So unfortunately it doesn’t appear to mean anything.

I hope decisions are released before the last possible day. Here are the past 5 years decision dates

1/21/11 Friday
1/19/12 Thursday
1/25/13 Friday
1/30/14 Thursday
1/28/15 Wednesday

With a large increase in EA applicants, I can’t imagine UNC will be much earlier than the last weekend in Jan.

I know people who work in admissions and I’ve been told either the 22nd or the 29th, depending when they finish, but with the large serge in applicants, I would probably expect the 29th.

Can anyone tell me if they’ll email us with the decision or if we’ll just have to check the portal?

I think they will send you an email telling you to check the portal.

Does anyone know if Chapel Hill gives any merit aid scholarships?

Is there a type of affirmative action system for high achieving students with learning disabilities at UNC?

In the past they’ve always sent an email and posted on the blog giving instructions for checking ConnectCarolina for your decision the day before decisions are posted

@lucyb98 UNC does give merit scholarships, however, they only give out an extremely limited number, and they are VERY competitive, especially OOS. Because you have to be ridiculously qualified to even get in, imagine how competitive it is to receive a merit scholarship. That being said, there are a few opportunities for scholarships. Students considered for scholarships will be notified after decisions are released and those students will be invited to Scholarship Day this spring. For more info look at UNC’s FAQ page for scholarships:

http://admissions.unc.edu/afford/scholarships/

In the past, there have been two scholarship days. One for EA in February and one for RD. The scholarship are VERY limited.

This wait is killing me. I think I’m just going to embrace the fact that I’m either going to get deferred or rejected.

@Janice98 me too. I’m trying to stay positive but it’s so hard :frowning:

does anyone think that the date they release decisions could be the 22nd?

Are you in state or out of state?

I am almost 100% sure that the decision comes out during the last week of January. January 30th is the latest you’ll hear back I believe.
