do you know what time she did? mine checked early today but still nothing. A friend’s daughter is same… nothing

My daughter never had her portal updated, but she received a letter saying she was deferred for nursing. She has a 4.0 weighted average and did not submit Sats. She visited 2 years ago with her sister, but that was not known by admissions. She did not have time to attend any on campus tours this year or any admissions counselor visits to her high school. She expressed much more interest with Fairfield, Salve, saint a’s, Endicott, uvm and got into those schools with merit. A friend got into unh nursing with a lower gpa. I’m wondering if they don’t want accept her now because they might need to offer her merit because of her gpa? Even with merit unh tuition would be at least 40k out of state. Saint A’s would be 34, salve 35, and Endicott 37. Uvm 40. Fairfield 46 :flushed:

Westfield state and Fitchburg only 24! People keep telling me to convince her to go to a state school and save money

It sounds like it might have been tough to get into nursing EA from out of state this year at UNH. Maybe they are holding to RD to see in state application numbers.

The friend may have had a lower GPA but with differed courses and different grades. They look at weighted and unweighted grades along with rigor. There could have been different ECs, too.

Congrats to her on all of the other acceptances. And the deferral could become an acceptance later. They could be waiting on mid year grades in math and science since she went test optional.

Lots of wonderful choices. My ds20 is at UVM and loves it. Salve is impressive for nursing, imho.

Oh definitely many schools look at the rigor/ecs. I felt that if she had demonstrated any interest, however, she may have been accepted. We were surprised with Fairfield and UVM acceptances, but she had interviewed/met with those admissions counselors. I am feeling that that is a huge factor. When I mentioned the student with lower stats, I am referring to stats low enough that no merit scholarship would be offered as an oos student. Wondering if they would give acceptances that would be full price out of state tuition before accepting higher gpa students who did not demonstrate any interest.

The merit for OOS could be a factor possibly, but for nursing they are usually looking for the strongest candidates so they can get through the tough courses. It is weird.

Demonstrated interest is definitely a factor with some colleges. Looks like she has some great options.

Hard to figure these schools out sometimes. My daughter was accepted to UNH nursing EA this year. OOS and received 12,000 trustees scholarship. And she heard very early (I believe 11/30). She was deferred at Fairfield. She has friends who got in to Fairfield but not UNH. I guess every school is looking for something different.

Parent of a current UNH student- they don’t consider demonstrated interest. It could just be the luck of the drawl. It’s impossible to figure out college admissions. She still might get in and she has great choices.

Hey! Just a heads up to check your portal. My S randomly checked and was admitted an hour ago to Marine, Estuarine and Freshwater Biology with OOS merit. Good luck to any remaining EA applicants!

So frustrating. My daughter admitted to second choice major at UNH, while accepted to many other competitive direct entry nursing programs…but, OF COURSE UNH was her dream school…so sad. She was sort of over it until she started to hear of some friends who are less academically strong, accepted into nursing. I suppose lots of factors at play, but it’s really frustrating to watch. I know she will be FINE; she is grateful she has choices. But I feel for her, and for all of our kids going through this in the age of social media. It’s brutal.

Oh no. Heartbreaking. I am so sorry. UNH has such a small program so very few spots to offer. I think the admissions officers play the odds and offer to kids who they assume will commit. Maybe they thought she wouldn’t have chosen them? Have her reach out to her admissions counselor and let them know she is a “sure thing” if offered admission. It can’t hurt right?
Hugs to your girl.

Thanks so much for your support! Yes they must play those odds… I have been encouraging her to reach out… she did, after all, get accepted to UNH, and it would not be totally outrageous to ask to be reconsidered for her first choice major.

Sorry to hear! Yes doesn’t make much sense, but I think going to accepted student days will help with the decision making. We are going to attend events at Regis, Salve, Umass Lowell, Endicott, Emmanuel, Colby-Sawyer, and UNE over the next 6 weeks. We have only seen Regis, Salve, and Endicott so far so we need to see these other campuses. One good thing about the smaller schools is that they are still having in-person events. Colby-Sawyer is a bargain at only 26K after merit, but it’s very small and I’m not sure if my daughter will like it.

Anyone else have a kid still waiting to hear? Mine applied 10/30 CLA undecided and nada yet. Weird! Everyone they know who applied after (but diff colleges) had heard.
