just applied and would like to get some idea of my chances.

male from the chicago land area. i had a illness in highschool which forced me to obtain a GED. ive since done 1 semster in college and will have 30 hours by fall

ACT: 24 (mostly due to panicking during test)

GED: 3350 (top 3% of a graduating highschool seniors who took the test)

college GPA 3.8

im hoping they look at what ive shown im capable of in college and dont put to much weight on the fact i have a ged and a low ACT, but, is this realistic?

I think you’ll be ok and get in. Did you apply DGS? You’ve got a few good things going for you - a good college GPA and a unique “hook” with your illness. I’d hope that the admission counselor would take a look at that and realize that you’ve had to overcome a lot and that experience has made you stronger. Obviously a GED isn’t the greatest thing (and I wouldn’t put much credence in the top 3% position because let’s face it most graduating HS seniors don’t take the GED) but given your circumustances it sounds like you had no choice. It also shows you didn’t give up and perservered. Your ACT score is kind of low but I’d bet you had a heck of a good essary based on your personal experience. I think you’ll get in. Can’t help but wonder why did you wait so long to apply?

thanks, thats encouraging. i waited until now to apply because i didn’t think i would even have a chance to be honest. after talking with some professors at my current college though i decided to at least try.

If you have less than 60 hours of transferrable college credit they look at whether you would have been admitted directly from high school. Not sure how they weight GED scores, but they won’t look at college credit for purposes of admission. They will, however, evaluate your college credit for hours towards fulfilling degree requirements, if you’re accepted.
