Uni's strict on mimimum GPA transfer?

Hey, how is it going guys? I came across this site yesterday, very pleased with it so far. Quick question:

I am currenty attending a CC and plan on applying end of fall 05 to universities for Summer 06. Unfortunately I screwed around my 1st year so my GPA is like 2.0 currently. Most universities it seems like have a minimum gpa of 2.5 to get accepted. I have done some calculation and it seems like if I do as well as I planned with 4 classes in the fall I can get 2.4 if I get A's. Now if I add 1 more class and get A's in all 5 then I can get a 2.5. Now is it worth taking this chance in your opinion? I guess my main question is Eventhough alot of universities state one must have a minimum of 2.5 to transfer, do they strictly follow that? Or can they be pretty lenient if you are close enough?

Thanks for your time.

I would be concerned even if you manage to satisfy the minimum GPA. If they say 2.5 is the minimum, it's the minimum. Most will have higher GPAs than that.

As most colleges say, while they do typically have minimums, most competitive candidates have much higher GPAs. Hang around a little longer and pull it up above a 3.0 to have a real shot. Also look into guaranteed admissions programs with state schools.

Cool. Thanks for the help guys.

My two main choices are Texas A&M and University of Houston

I live in College Station thats why A&M would be easier.

But I really like U of H. I need to visit the campus. Also another good thing about U of H is the minimum they require is 2.0 if above 30 hours. While A&M is 2.5.

With geting into UH and Texas A&M. I ,on the other hand, am applying to Stanford, Yale, and Brown. So far, I've completed my application essays and statement questions. The only disappointment is that my GPA is a 3.5+ with 57 credits completed because I was hoping to complete my CC with a 3.75 GPA. But I'll see what happens. If I can get into ONE of my top choices, I'll go without question. This is my hope. This is my dream.

good luck redlinekid2...you can do it!!! I myself will be transferring this fall
