units needed to be full time student???

is 15 okay?

Yes, that’s a standard load and the most they let students take during their first quarter.

^ Mm, not really… I’m taking 18 units and I’m an incoming freshman.

And to answer your question, 12 units is considered a “full-time” student. And as the person above me said, 15 units is about the average amount of units a student takes.

I have 13 units because I’m taking 2 classes (core and major) and Chem 1P, which happens to be 3 credits, and I’m not sure whether its lab/discussion counts for 2 or not.

Not too worried since I have some AP credits, but it does look a bit weird.

iggykins: The max allowed is 19 units, not 15 units, for the first quarter. You can petition to take more, however. It does take a lot of work, though, and the answer is most of the time “no.” But it is possible.

After your first quarter, you can take up to 22 units without petitioning if you maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. If you have lower than a 3.0, then the max you can take is 19 units without petitioning. Everyone no matter what their GPA must petition for any units taken over 22 units. Also, no one can add more than 19 units until after the quarter has begun.

i5moco: 15 units is the “recommended load per quarter” that will allow you to graduate on time. 12 units is considered full-time for insurance and financial aid purposes, though, if this is what you’re concerned about.

Oh, thanks for that!
