When you apply directly at bama website, how do you send them official transcripts ? Counsellors encourage commonapp where everything is ‘right there’ but waiver does not work there.
Have your school send them directly. This is what admissions says:
Transcript
Transcripts may be submitted by mail or through an electronic transcript provider and should be sent to UA directly from your high school. We accept transcripts electronically through the following providers: Parchment/Naviance, E-Scripts, Scribbles, Overgrad, NeedMyTranscript, SCOIR and National Student Clearinghouse. If the school is mailing your transcript(s), please use this address:

Your transcript(s) may also be emailed to our office at hstranscripts@ua.edu. Please note that emailed transcripts must be in a PDF format and sent directly from the school/counselor to be considered official.
From what I have heard… UA is pretty happy with the school size now. I am not sure how much of an increase there will be going forward.
Regarding when we received merit notification.
Son was accepted by email Sep 8.
Received acceptance package in the mail Sep 19.
Received scholarship letter in the mail Sep 20.
Were you TO?
One of the things I like about Bama is you know the scholarship up front. So there’s no surprise but i’m not sure how they handle TO.
They also have the competitive ones - my daughter got an extra $4K so they are worth filling out.
No, test score is the strongest part of his application. He got the Presidental Elite and is expecting to get the NM package.
Thanks for the tip on additional scholarships!
Can anyone confirm the timing of awarding the National Recognition Program scholarships? Is the time frame the same as the automatic Merit awards, or is this treated separately?
Anyone with experience in receiving this award at Alabama?
DS was accepted to Alabama earlier this month.
Have you heard back yet? My daughter applied on August 1st, but her high school didn’t send her transcript until August 29th. It’s October 20th, and we still haven’t received a decision. GPA 3.5, ACT 26, many high-level athletic achievements…etc. I’m thinking deferred, maybe? We’re out of state. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Have you heard back? My daughter’s dates are very similar to yours. We’re still waiting. We are out of state and did submit her scores.
What college did she apply for at Alabama?
Both daughters applied—one for nursing, the other for general business.
Did you send them the certificate from the college board?
If so, I believe it will show up in your students account.
If not, you need to send that in and they will update the scholarship to reflect the correct one
For us, it was updated in less then two weeks.
Ok. I do know that the nursing school is very competitive so that may take a bit for a decision.
My daughter applied 10/11. Her status had this same message until Friday afternoon… now nothing- that message is gone. Did your message disappear before a then decision message was posted? Thanks!
My S23 received both the Presidential scholarship letter and the National Recognition scholarship letter (in separate envelopes) in the mailbox on the same day, about ten to fourteen days after he received his acceptance letter.
Not sure if they are giving that scholarship any longer as it has disappeared from the website.
That said, my son got it last year. The official letter came in the spring but they sent a letter in the fall saying congrats and all that. He got the presidential award before that but that was replaced by the higher value award.
If it makes you feel better, D24’s ACT scores finally arrived on 10/20 and her status changed to the same message that day. I don’t think it means deferred (she has a 4.217/4.0 unweighted and a 32ACT).
Just got acceptance. Woohoo!!! First one. Applied 10/17, application complete 10/18. OOS, high stats.
bama just put this out about National recognition scholarships; they are changing it to a holistic, competitive process.
National Recognition Scholars
Why is this scholarship changing?
The decision to transition the National Recognition Scholarship to the UA Competitive Achievement Scholarship enables The University of Alabama to have a more sustainable scholarship program for talented first-year students. This decision was informed by a recent review of all scholarships to ensure The University of Alabama can continue offering robust financial support to as many students as possible.
What IS changing?
The National Recognition Scholarship has been discontinued. The University of Alabama will honor the award value for any student who qualified for the National Recognition Scholarship and was notified of an admitted admission decision by October 19.
National Recognition Scholars who submit an application and all supporting documents by the January 15 priority deadline will be eligible for competitive awards up to tuition and the new UA Competitive Achievement Scholarship.
This means that students with demonstrated academic excellence that surpass their peers and/or national distinctions in their intended professional or academic area while in high school will receive consideration. Our scholarship review committees will place emphasis on this and other honors, along with other academic and non-academic factors, to determine whether a student will receive a competitive award.
What IS NOT changing?
National Recognition Scholars will still be valued by UA in our competitive scholarship review process, and the academic honor will be considered in a student’s review for competitive scholarship awards. We will continue to recruit and welcome students with this distinction to the Capstone.
