So basically now we wait for info about applying for the not automatic scholarships and honors college? Is that what comes in the mail?
S24 got his award in the mail about 2 weeks after his acceptance. It was only the auto merit award. The supplemental awards come out much later as the deadline I think is materials in by Jan 1.
Thank you!
So mad. My son was NRP and applied in August. High school counselor never sent transcript. Claimed school district policy not to send anything until October. At least he has chance at similar scholarship but now will have to wait until February to find out.
Well, had to happen. I think they will continue to be generous with NRP kids.
Very frustating. My son’s school did the same thing and waited two months to submit the transcript after submitting the app even when asking a few times. Claimed it would be in by the deadline (which, I guess it was) though we hoped for more than the bare minimum.
Did your son get accepted? and if so when? because if he was accepted before Oct. 19, he could get the automatic scholarship they used to have. if he didn’t get accepted before the 19th, he could still get it. It is the same scholarship with a different name and is open to everyone (competitive). Don’t lose hope.
That’s so weird. Don’t high schools know that the earlier you apply the better the chances are to get scholarship $?. Colleges don’t have infinite funds… lots of scholarships say things like “based upon availability of funds”, especially those NRP scholarships. I saw it in the UA and Texas A&M scholarship pages. Don’t lose hope. Your son can still get it.
That is why, if possible, get a sealed transcript and send it yourself. We did that for all three kids because school counselors have hundreds of students and invariably will forget something.
when do we find out about merit? I was accepted a few weeks ago but haven’t heard anything about merit.
You should know where you stand based on the auto merit tables.
Are you in or OOS ?
Is your gpa a 3.5 or more ? If so, what is your test score ?
OOS GPA is 4.1 and SAT is 1400
Your son should plan to attend the ADay game in the spring. Even though it’s just Bama vs Bama it is VERY well attended-huge tradition - like has sold out typically and people still tailgate some and there is the ‘atmosphere’ of a Saturday in the Fall!
This sounds great- where can I find info on this?
Here was last spring’s schedule. Mind you, this is the football stuff. There is much more:
I don’t believe they’ve set the date for next spring yet.
So you’ll be $24K in merit. If you’re in engineering or CS, another $2500 a year for $26.5K total.
There are competitive scholarships too - requiring a separate app. My daughter got $4K more ($24K to $28K) by filling out the scholarship app.
But the $24K is automatic - see link.
What is the competative scholarship app? My son was sent a supplemental scholarship application to complete, but nearly all of the scholarships had super specific criteria for major, financial need, etc. There were none for his intended major. I think there was only one that he was able to apply for, and it required no additional information. Is there a different application for competive scholarships? UA is very clear about merit scholarships, which is great, but I am somewhat confused by the process for competitve scholarships and what one needs to do to be considered for them.
If I remember correctly - it’s the same. Like if you’re from this county or your family worked at that bank - but there’s a generalist part to it too - so those are endowed - but they have more generalist money.
So we qualified for nothing on the app - yet my daughter was sent a note raising from from $24-28K.
it’s been two years so I can’t totally remember but I do remember she didn’t meet any of the “endowed” ones listed. But she still submitted.
It may be this is where you put in your activities, etc. that they don’t care about for admission…when we applied, it was a UA app, not common - so they didn’t know your activities, etc.
I guess fill out the form best you can, and see. I remember my daughter griping she had to put in her activities, etc.
- Summer and Fall Semester 2024 applicants should submit an application and all supporting documents by the priority deadline of January 15.
- Students will be evaluated holistically, based on academic and non-academic information provided on their admission application. Academic components considered will include high school GPA and academic honors. Non-academic items will include leadership experience, volunteer experience, extracurricular activities, employment and non-academic honors.
- Students with demonstrated academic excellence, especially those who receive national distinction
My son filled out the general alumni one. Forgot what it was called. It said that they look for people with leadership but not required.
I think the general alumni scholarship is the only one my son met the criteria for.
