Where did you find it? S24 opened the supplemental scholarship page in his portal and saw all the super specific ones but no place to apply for the alumni one.
Will ask when i get home, he may have to login again and look
the competitive scholarship app is for kids who are not submitting test scores. from what i gather, bama does not combine a competitive scholarship and a regular admissions scholarship with test scores and gpa.
there are other scholarships they can apply to that are supplemental; we too found very few our kid qualified for.
that’s what the site says (or has said for the last few years). However, sounds like Tsbn44’s Daughter received an additional scholarship. was it termed “competitive?” i’m sort of confused on how that worked!
My own kiddo received an unpublished, un-applied for admissions scholarship a few years ago on top of his ACT/GPA-auto-merit scholarship. there is NOTHING on the website about it. (called tutweiler) and it made all the difference!
My D23 last year only received what was listed in auto merit charts although she filled out everything she could.
So – my answer is . . . it’s a little unclear for me; but fill things out and see what happens!!
In the ua scholarship application link there is the alumni crimson scholarship. That is the one.
Go to admissions and scholarships. The. Freshman supplemental scholarship application
This might be what my kid did. Supplemental. I just remember there were so many - this county, that city, parents worked at this bank or company. None were applicable but she filled out all the activities and whatever asked.
Why she got $4k more I don’t know. But she did.
It’s interesting because in S24’s supplemental portal, if you look above at the “activities” they are all there listed already- like they were imported/pulled somehow. He has not filled anything out other than what was required in the initial UA application/Common App extra questions.
Back a few years ago, they weren’t on Common - so if you used Common, that’s the change - they have them already.
I have twins who attend different high schools. Both applied on August 1st. Both high schools sent transcripts at the end of August. One daughter applied to nursing, the other to general business. Today is October 31st. My nursing daughter was accepted today. We’re still waiting on the other. We’re OOS, GPA 3.5, ACT 26, and many high-level sports accomplishments. Fingers crossed for the twin.
That must be uniquely challenging with twins. I can’t imagine! My son still hasn’t heard from Bama… he has several other rolling admission acceptances so we’re focused on those for now (and thankfully he’s stopped asking about Alabama). Probably off to visit Ole Miss and U Kentucky over Thanksgiving break.
Has anyone gotten invite to Capstone scholars weekend in January? Trying to figure out best time to visit. Want to see Ole Miss too but they’re not back in session until 1/22.
The Capstone Scholars weekend was what sold the school to my son. The student research ambassadors give presentations and it is a pretty laid back but informative weekend to learn about Bama along with other high stat kids. Be aware of two things: 1. Weather can be unpredictable. 2. Bama Bound (mandatory orientation for attending students) will duplicate a lot of the materials.
One thing you might consider instead is the special tour arranged by your local rep, which will be a 1 day affair and then going on to Ole Miss.
Son applied mid October. No updates yet. He’d also like to apply to honors, Randall and Blount. Appears he needs to wait until acceptance to apply? He’d like to get a head start. Anyone know the prompts for Honors and Randall or anything he can do to start prepping his application for these?
My daughter sent in the Blount application without letting me see it, but she got an interview so I assume it was fine. She did mention that part of it was writing a haiku??
Bama is coming to our town and the event is at a hotel like 5 blocks from my office downtown. D24s school is also downtown so it’s a super easy thing to go to for us. We are really looking forward to it.
Your daughter has already been accepted or still waiting? Did she apply to honors also? Older son does Blount and enjoys it!
Blount application is here:
https://blount.as.ua.edu/apply/
FAQ (very cool, best FAQ on the interwebs) is here:
https://blount.as.ua.edu/about/faqs/
NOTE: Even though it says if you’re admitted to Blount, you’re automatically in Honors, you still have to actually apply to the Honors College, which also requires an essay.
Accepted mid-September, also applied to Honors as well. A couple of weeks ago she received a delightful email from Blount (all of their communications are delightful) notifying her that she made the cut for the interview in January.
I thought Honors was rolling, but we haven’t heard yet. Has anyone heard back on that yet?
I applied on the 31 when do you think I will hear back?
Does your daughter have the prompt for the honors essay? My son is trying to get that essay started. Thanks
Update: Twin was accepted yesterday, November 8th. Whew!
Do they still send acceptance package in the mail? Received letter regarding auto merit.
Answer: they do still send acceptance package in mail. Received today
