I am currently in my first semester of community college and am taking 15 credit hours( i plan on taking the same amount next semester), the classes are all transferable and i should have no problem getting at least B's in all of them. I am from out of state and my EC's are: play semi- pro hockey, varsity lacrosse, as well as a good amount of community service (mostly through my hockey team). What are my chances ?

in order to better my chances for admission i would also like to know whether i should apply as early as possible (now) before the rush of applicants but without a full semester finalized, or to wait until my first semester transcript is finalized (with my good grades intact). i was an average student in HS with an average ACT as well (except for the writing which i got a 11 out of 12) so i would rather have them go off my college work only, if that's possible.

Dear Widdy91- Greetings from the University of Alabama Undergraduate Admissions office! Thanks for your question and we hope this helps you out: If the you want to apply as a transfer student (without using your HS GPA and test score) you will need to wait until you have completed 24 semester hours. Transfer admission requires completion of 24 semester hours (excluding technical, remedial and vocational courses) and an overall 2.0 GPA. If you would like to be admitted sooner, you should submit your high school transcript, test score and first semester college transcript for evaluation with the application. For more information, be sure to head to [Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](http://gobama.ua.edu)! Thanks and have a great day!

I will have 24 credit hours when the year is over, is there any way they can accept me on a conditional basis based on my first semester grades ? And what is the priority cut off date for transfer students ? i really want to be attending in the fall of 2011, and i also want to make sure i get accepted with enough time to get decent housing. I am more than willing to write an essay and have an interview with an alumnus or admissions employee. I would submit my high school grades and test scores but i don’t think they are up to par with Alabama’s standards, I have also heard that if you are rejected once that usually means they will never consider you again. So I really don’t want to ruin any chances of getting in by submitting my HS scores. I had a lot of negative things going on in my life throughout all of high school and have gotten over all of that since, I want to be judged on who I am now, not who I was. I know if I could sit down and talk with a representative from the school they would see i am a very motivated and passionate person who would do very well at the university

Hello again! Here’s what you can do if you do not wish to submit high school transcripts. You can go ahead and apply, then when the year is over and all 24 hours are completed, you can have your transcript for all 24 hours of your college classes sent to UA, and we can then make a decision…and if you are admitted, you could start Fall 2011. As for housing, because you would be a transfer student, you wouldn’t be required to live on campus, but if you wanted, once admitted, you could contact housing to see what was still available. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your feedback ! I have just have a couple more questions, since I would be a transfer student (thus being accepted much later than first year freshmen), would there still be room in the larger dorms like Riverside, Lakeside, and Ridgecrest ?(I also wouldn’t mind living in Harris) i want to live in a large dorm so I can meet as many people as I can (since ill know no one when arriving at school). I know you cant know for sure, but based on trends and past information I’m hoping you can give me an estimation as to what dorms might be available at that time. Also, when exactly is the priority deadline for transfer student applications/transcripts ? I can get all my information in with the 24+ credit hour college transcript by mid May, I hope that’s early enough to get priority consideration.

Hello, i am a sophomore whose looking to transfer to the University of Alabama and have over 27 credits so far, and at the end of this semester will have 43 credits. I contain a GPA above a 2.0 for all my courses, and plan on transferring for spring semester of 2011. I have been incredibly nervous these past couple weeks while filling out my transfer form. Do you think you can help me out at all, and let me know if i am on track? If anyone can help me out that would mean a lot to me. I am also applying to be a criminal justice major.

Hello and thanks for your question! Our GPA requirement for transfer admissions is at least a 2.0 overall college GPA, this excludes technical, remedial, and vocational courses. An official high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores may be needed. The priority date for applying to transfer in spring 2011 is December 1st. The application can be found at [Apply for Admission - Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](<a href=“How to Apply – Admissions”>http://apply.ua.edu/), and you will also need to pay the application fee and submit a copy of your official college transcript(s). Hope this helps you!

I noticed the office of admissions replied to your post so I’m hoping they will reply to my question if I post on the same feed but sorry for the interruption. I am in a program called early college at a community college in Florida. I take 15 credit hours a semester in order to finish my AA degree at the same time as my high school diploma. Most colleges in Florida, even though I will have over 60 credits, do not consider me a transfer student because my credits were earned before high school graduation. I am wondering what the University of Alabama’s transfer student requirements are and if I would qualify as a transfer student. If so, do I have to apply directly to a college and chose a major or do you accept applications for sophomore level students. Also, if I am accepted as a sophomore or a transfer student am I required to live on campus?

Based on the numbers you mentioned in your post, it sounds like you would be classified as an entering freshman at UA, which actually would have some advantages. To find out a little more about that, you are welcome to get in touch with Schernavia Hall in our office using the following contact form:

I just applied as a transfer student to the University of Alabama. I’m from out of state and a US Navy veteran. Unfortunatley I have a 2.46 GPA with 75 credits. What do you think my chances are of getting in?
