Good to know that it will likely come before the housing application opens March 1st. Let the wait begin.
My D just got notified she got the Cincinnatus Excellence Scholarship
How was she notified? Expecting my own Cincinnatus Excellence Scholarship and the anticipation is brutal
She got a letter via mail last Saturday. We live in Cincinnati so I assume you we got it 1-2 days after they sent it.
What was in the letter? Was it just a short confirmation on getting the scholarship with details on what it offers? Hopefully I get it soon so I can be confident in confirming my enrollment. I already got an agreement letter back in November that I had to sign and send in
I think she got what you got back in November: 1) a letter explaining she has been named Cincinnatus Excellence Scholar for 18-19, 2) the recipient agreement (which needs to be returned signed), and 3) a letter with all the details of the award.
Btw: she is also going to study computer engineering.
@CompEngKid - Was your November letter also for Excellence? The criteria for Excellence is being a National Merit Finalist or National Hispanic Scholars, correct? I think my kid is solid on attending OSU, but it would be nice to see what UC has to offer…my son doesn’t qualify for the Excellence (and while his stats are good, I don’t think they are good enough for a Presidential) so it’s down to the Century and University scholarships for him, I think.
yes, that is the criteria
@OSUmom2018 Yes, I was fortunate enough to be invited to the NHRP for my PSAT score
i got an email a couple of months ago inviting me to apply to the darwin t turner scholarship, i still havent recieved any information on whether i got it. i also havent recieved any information about a merit scholarship yet. i applied before the december 1st deadline, and uc is my first choice so long as i get a scholarship. will i get a notification even if im rejected? also, i currently live abroad-do they only send the notificiations through mail?
@cdk198 Nobody has gotten information yet, but you will likely get some notification to check your financial aid package once it is released, and this would most likely include the Darwin T Turner Scholarship if you were selected for it.
@cdk198 My S, also, received the invite for the Turner Scholarship. He too has not yet been notified.
Well here it is, almost the end of February…my daughter still hasn’t made a decision yet due to the lack of scholarship info from either of her top schools…I guess when she makes a decision, she’ll get whatever housing is left…
@Honorsmom that’s our approach as well. getting the right fit and finance figured out is more important than the residence hall. But all else being equal my D would choose the school that sill offers equal opportunity to housing options beginning 5/1.
@Honorsmom @Banker1 Housing always works out. Lots of kids do not decide until end of April. Seems crazy, but true. Also, remember if honors housing or being selected to a living/learning community applies, that may dictate where they live. Went through this last year with oldest S.
@BreakfastClub1 that’s a good point about Honors housing. Another reason not to panic about housing. It reminded me that D was notified here she has been offered Honors. Our visit is one month out now and in the mean time we hope to continue to be notified about Merit scholarship awards.
Newbie here…I’ve been reading these posts for awhile as my son is also anxiously awaiting notification of merit aid. We are attending the welcome brunch on March 3rd-anyone else? It has been over a year since he visited, hope to have financials from UC by than so he can make his decision, as well as decide where he wants to live. He has heard from Marquette University, Ohio University, Dayton, and the University of Akron, all of which he has received merit aid from; pretty frustrating that it is taking UC so long.
I heard UC doesn’t give much merit but I hope that’s incorrect. D received $6k/yr so far but hoping for more.
@Banker1 @MomtoSCA I have read that they ‘spread’ the merit across many and reinforce the fact that many kids co-op and make money throughout their experience at UC. My S interviewed for business honors at the end of January and, I believe, he will not hear back about that until March sometime (merit money is tied into that). It seems like many are “underwhelmed” by their merit offering with Cincinnati. Right now, financially it is cheaper for my S to go to OSU or Miami for business compared to Cincinnati and, frankly, the outcome/reputation of the first two are better for that degree. Unless he gets the Honors program he wants and good merit, he will probably choose another school.
