University Of Florida Non-admitees

"By the way, I don't graduate till December"

Your still considered an Alumni. The "Official Qualifications" (which is the International Standard) stipulates that a student only has to attend an institution for a total of 2 semesters.

But your right it's alot more prestigious to say I am a graduate of XXX Institution.

This argument is still going on? I'm just sorry for the people who wasted an entire weekend debating and arguing when it could've been spent on something worthwhile. It's obvious everyone has their own opionions and they're not going to change. Everyone is justified to one and I do understand where you are both coming from. However, it is apparent each side has their own beliefs (understandable) and they're definitely not budging.

"My mind is made up. Don't confuse me with facts!"

BTW, I would still have a beer with anyone on this board.

It's great to fight for your beliefs. It's even greater to be able to fight for your beliefs.

I agree...actually, the only people in this thread I don't think I would like are the people who say shut up, and there should be no debate. Wow, really...in an open society...really? Should be no debate or exchange of differing ideas??

I know some of you would preffer to argue numbers when it comes to AA.
Attached is an interesting web site I found a while back from The Education Trust which tracks graduation rates.
For what it's worth it's:
The Education Trust - Closing the Achievement Gap

^ Wow your list shows that UF has equivalent SAT scores to University of Wisconsin & UIUC. In addition we are only 20 points behind University of Michigan. It's a shame that the legislature doesn't give us the proper funding we deserve.

Go Gators!

I just think coming up with facts and counterattacks are silly esp. if each side is sticking to their own beliefs. It's not like one can suddenly convince the other. It's futile and a waste of time. And isn't is a bit hypocritical to say commend debate and the "exchange of ideas" and yet my opinion is responded with "the only people i really don't like are those who say to shut up". Kinda contradictory.

Yes SSobick. Clearly, UF not being above those schools is clearly the fault of the legislature. Sarcasm

Can't you just accept that there are actually public colleges that may be BETTER than UF?

No, the Legislature has screwed the State University System for generations. Not just the Republicans today, but also the Southern Democrats before them.

Their motto in the Legislature is: "We do education on the cheap"
(seriously NO JOKE)

Florida does do education on the cheap, but the impact is only felt in K-12. I believe the university system in Florida is pretty top notch and is comparable, but not necessarily equal to, other states such as California, Illinois and New York.

Unfortunatelly all the states dvm mentions have state income taxes that insure the amount of funding their educational systems will recieve.
Florida however is a 'pay as you go state" dependent on tourist dollars.
Funding is therefore a total crapshoot year to year.

If you want to see a real drop in USNews ratings wait till this comming year when the student/faculty ratio ballons and the faculty resources figures plumet.
% of "unqualified" minorities purportedly accepeted will pale in comparison with these #'s.

I disagree:

UF & FSU are the only two institutions ranked in the top-120. USF & UCF are ranked Tier-3, and FIU, FAU, UWF, and FAMU are ranked Tier-4. FGCU is a low ranked Masters granting institution.

Whereas

Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UC-Irvine, UC-Davis, UC-SB are all ranked in the Top-50. UC-Santa Cruz & UC-River Side are ranked in the Top-120.

In essence, California is destorying us in quality, and sheer number of prestigious institutions. The SUNY System has 4 institutions ranked in he Top-120, however it's important to note that the majority of their population lives in NYC and their best & brightest would rather go to Private Institutions.

"I just think coming up with facts and counterattacks are silly"

You'e a funny guy...let's have a debate without having facts and counterattacks. I'm not even sure if I should take this post as a joke??

Yes, but is this prestige in California making it difficult for deserving state residents to get into a public four year college?

I meant that stats and counterattacks are silly when your opponent's views are constant and unchangeable. I've already moved on but am baffled as to why you continue to linger onto posts days and hours old. Next subject

I see, this is a closed subject. No more debate is allowed. God forbid anyone seek to change the status quo. Gotcha, as long as you called it!

basically, the person is saying this topic is stupid to argue about and should never have begun. wow, you're dumber than i thought. and honestly, i dont know why i wasted the time.....

and also Fl Boy, if you want to talk about un-american, go talk to some of our people in war who raped Iraq women and punished some of their people. thanks

Huh?...that's the most ridiculous line in all of the ridiculous posts by this guy.

This has to do with the discussion at hand how?

Flboy, I must commend your writing and debate skills - impeccable use of phrasing and grammar. Bravo!

Actually, it's relatively unimportant whether either side of the debate ends up changing their minds or not. What's important are the opinions of the lurkers and the occasional posters. I hope we have stimulated their thinking, particularly the ones who were unaware of UF's policies on admission.
