@Embeechristmas, my son received the big acceptance packet today as well. He hasn’t opened it yet so I do not know if it mentions the academic scholarship he was offered earlier this month. He did find out about his scholarship award by going through the Student Communication Center tab in the online portal. I do not believe that he submitted any separate application for the scholarship. Based on on your class rank and SAT score, you should most definitely have been awarded one of those scholarships as well so go check the Student Communication Center tab in your portal. Good luck.
Thanks @fatherof2boys. I just checked and see a letter dated 12/12 saying I have been awarded AES between $2,500-$6500, and a notification by US mail will be sent beginning Jan 1. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you again
FWIW, I am a UH Honors College business grad from east TX and turned down a presidential scholarship at A&M for a NM scholarship at UH. I saved $ for grad school.
My dormmates were from all over the country and my roommate went to Michigan Med School on scholarship. He was a Michigan resident. The Honors College is worth the effort and I still stay in touch with many classmates and professors. Best wishes to everyone in your decisions. Go Coogs!
My D got into Honors College and Architecture program along with AES scholarship for 4.5K. Does anyone has any opinion on the architecture program (B.Arch)
Have all the notifications for merit only scholarships gone out? DD is OOS until May then in state for tuition as we relocated) and we just got the admission packet but no scholarship info. UTD has offered her AES plus 2k stipend,
TAMU admitted to eng and is instate on Howdy when admitted in Sept, 8K at texas tech. Murchison at Trinity. I expected UH to have some options also. She has visited and she lives and works in Houston (with parents) in her gap year. 33 act, IBD plus APs, top 10% in her high school (not Texas, would be higher if based on WGPA if UH recalculates). I don’t know whether it is worth even following up as she finds it very difficult to get any answers from UH.
@Sybylla Look in the portal to see what scholarship she was awarded. That’s how we found out about ds’ merit award. We have not received anything in the mail yet.
I see it now, thanks. It was in an email.
I got in a while ago, thought I’d post anyway.
1330 SAT & 3.5 unweighted GPA. Non-ranking. Texas resident.
I got into Business and applied to the Honors college (I had to create a three page essay as I did not have one, and they even asked me for another!). Also applied for the Terry scholarship, no notice from UH on financial aid.
Congrats @angelyh1, my son had stats similar to your and he was offered a $4,500 Academic Excellence Scholarship, so you should at the very least get that. UH doesn’t make it that intuitive to check the amount of the scholarship; however, you can do so by logging into your account and selecting the following: Student Center>View Financial Aid. Good luck!
@angelyh1 My son is having to rewrite an old essay to fit the honors college requirement. He already sent one in, but they asked for another. I hope he’ll have it finished this weekend and hope the hard work pays off!
Congrats on your acceptance!
@jazzymomof7 I would recommend that your son contacts the Honors admissions and request that a different essay (I used my Topic A essay) be pushed through in place of yet another three page essay. It’ll save some time!
@angelyh1 Thanks for that suggestion. I had not thought of that. He could certainly use that time for something other than writing another essay!
I just received my academic excellence scholarship today. And it is for $6500 per year! I just have to calculate now what the COA will be after the 6500. Anyone knows what it is for engineering(not honors) full course load.
hey! can i ask when you applied, got admitted and found about scholarships you’ve received? I’ve been constantly worrying and I feel like I missed the line for receiving any scholarships as they may have ran out of funding

@ramoda I applied as soon as they opened sometime in August/september( no essays!!! That’s why was easy to do it quick). Heard from them by second week of September. I found out about AES after I saw a post here. But my portal did not give an exact number(just said $2500-6500). Hard copy was received on Jan 16th when I posted here.
Regarding merit based scholarships, I was told at an orientation in another University that you have to have applied by early… (Nov 1st?) or the chances are slim as they run out of $$. Not sure if it is true here too.
@embeechristmas ohh okay I see! Thank you so much! I’m so nervous that my chances for getting any merit scholarships are slim as I feel like I applied much later. Around what time did you find the range of money you would receive on your portal?
@ramoda I did not know it will be in the portal until I read here and then checked. I think last week of December…I did post here at that time
@Embeechristmas thank you so much for all your help! Congratulations on your scholarship and acceptance to UH!!!
Welcome @ramoda. Best wishes to you and hope you get the highest scholarship too. Please keep us posted!
