Hey guys,
I am a New Jersey Resident and aspiring business major who’s been admitted by Smith school of business at UMD along with the business schools at Rutgers-New Brunswick and SUNY Binghamton. I’m not exactly sure which segment of the business field I want to major in at this time, and I’m looking for the school that will provide me with the best opportunities in the future. While money is a factor, my family is willing to help me out with my tuition and I’m expecting to get some scholarship funds. I have a 1980 SAT score and a 30 ACT score in addition to a 92 unweighted GPA (I take several college classes as a senior). What would you recommend?
What’s the cost of each school? Did you get aid at any?
I just recently filed a FAFSA and am awaiting aid offers.
University of Maryland - $45,736 (out of state)
Binghamton University- $35,921 (out of state)
Rutgers University-$25,710 (in state)
Fordham University tuition is $46,120 per year
Rutgers, as much as I don’t care for the campus, is a solid school and their business program is top-notch. If money is an issue, there is no contest. My friend’s daughter is attending Rutgers and in the honors business program and loving it. Personally, you know I would vote for Maryland, haha.
Rather than “my parents are willing to help”, can you indicate how much your parents can pay “out of pocket” ie., exact amount, per year, without taking loans on your behalf?
You, as a freshman, are allowed $5,500 in loans. The total for all 4 years is 27K which with interest becomes 31K, the amount a college graduate can reasonably back pay in 10 years. (Loans have been greatly restricted after the financial crisis in 2008.)
Second, are you a direct admit to Smith?
Are your test scores top 10% at any of these?
(Bing doesn’t give much merit aid so you’d need to be top 5%, but in both cases a 2100 or 1400CR+M would be expected for any merit).
Don’t expect more than a couple thousands in merit from Rutgers if you didn’t hit 1400CR+M, even if it’s your state school.
