nope! @Frank110
That page has been updated at least three times in as many days. If only they put as much time into communicating with applicants! Showing applicants a little respect and love can go a long way.
@fairfaxfun…yes, I had withdrawn all my other apps which is why I found it odd.
The description of EA has removed the part were they say the applicants will hear in late January. The table shows late January early February. If you have an old link it will take you to the old page. Go in from the google search to be safe.
is this the chat for Chico state?
@caveatesq They are showing you respect, let me explain how. Applications are way up this year at popular colleges. This is because it’s so easy for students to apply to as many schools as they want thru the common app. Because it’s so easy, EA is way up as well. Put yourself in Miami’s shoes. They have thousands more applications than the year before, and they have this end of January date that they have published for EA decisions. In an effort to hit their EA commitment date, a lot of other colleges simply defer all the applicants they have not had the chance to review at that point. Is that showing “more respect” than just extending the date out a little? I don’t think so. Decisions on applications is not the type of thing that you want to farm out to temporary help, so you can’t really bring on extra workers just for admissions season. Even with the best laid plans and intentions there are going to be some delays sometimes, and if you have ever worked in a busy environment then you know this. As far as them communicating changes to the dates with you, I’m sure UM knows that anything they post or e-mail out regarding changes is going to generate thousands of calls and e-mails that they don’t have time to answer…just making people even more upset and anxious. Lastly, if you still want to feel disrespected and unloved like you mentioned in your post above, please wait until they actually haven’t hit their original EA commitment date.
Does anyone think we’ll receive decisions this month? I know it’s wishful thinking but I believe they might
@EDHDAD Year-over-year EA applications have been increasing at lots of schools, UM included. If admissions somehow underestimated the increase this year and needs some extra time to complete its review, that’s understandable. A simple “we got X applications this year and want to give them each the attention they deserve and are therefore pushing our response date back” email would go much farther to win over anxious applicants than a (poorly executed) webpage update and a cutesy Instagram video.
At the end of the day, my son can wait a bit longer for his decision. Other schools have been much more transparent with their process and more applicant friendly and that has not gone unnoticed by him. Just the other day, he received a personal call from a Big 10 university admissions staffer looking to field questions. As a result, that school shot up his list. At the end of the day UM is running a business and competing for students and their tuition dollars. UM would be well served to up its game.
@caveatesq I understand what you are saying about it not helping their case. I have written on here about how it has not helped our desire to attend Miami because we have made plans to visit other schools already. And yes, the easiest to get into schools are the ones trying the hardest with calls and handwritten letters for sure. It doesn’t sound to me like you are convinced that school in the Big 10 is that great because you would not be so upset at Miami if it were.
@EDHDAD I think you’re wrong to make that assumption in the post above. College applications are super stressful and so is waiting for decisions. And every decision matters. I love my saftey school, love love love it. They have been so awesome in communicating and I feel like they want me. But I still want to know my options. I really can’t move on with my life until I know all my college options. So I’m pretty pissed at Miami too. Not for pushing the deadline back (though I think they should’ve seen that coming) but the lack of communication. Like someone else said a simple email would’ve been sufficient. Not a website update they hoped would go under the rug and an Instagram video.
from @Steglitz90 in the U Miami EA 2022 thread:
“Hi all – my S is a freshman at the U (admitted last year EA 1/26/17). Anyways, he works at the Enrollment Office & was pulled into duty on Tuesday to help package all the EA admissions packets that were being prepped for mailing. As email acceptances go out first (usually a Thurs), followed by the exciting “thick envelope” received a few days later via snail mail, I think those EA decisions are going to be posted any day now. Good luck!”
@jackd341 So if the emails normally come out on a Thursday does that mean they might come out next week on the first?
@Kd6410 So far the only assumptions that have been made is that Miami is not going to hit it’s EA deadline and that schools who make admissions decisions quickly must "love and respect " their students more. If all your admissions staff does is look at grades and test scores before making a decision then there is tons of time for them to provide follow up phone calls, e-mails, letters, etc. I don’t know about you, but for me it’s LESS stressful to think they are taking their time to make good decisions, even if it means waiting.
@EDHDAD I specifically said that I didn’t mind that they’re pushing the date back. I very, very clearly said that. I am mad that they’re not bring transparent at all and are trying to push this all under the rug. And that UM doesn’t communicate with prospective students at all. That’s what bothers me and I said that exact same thing before but I guessed you ignored that so you would have something to say.
@user1432 I have no clue. We all know the same, which is pretty much nothing. There’s no point in arguing over this @Kd6410 and @EDHDAD both make valid points. I say we all just go on with our lives until the release date, even though mine seems to be centered around this decision lol.
@Kd6410 I wasn’t talking about you. You commented on my response to another post that was not yours.
@EDHDAD Same thing then. The person you were responding too was saying that others school shot up their son’s list because they communicated. Not because they came back with a decision fast.
@jackd341 Not trying to argue with anybody, just trying to provide some food for thought as to why maybe folks should not be so anxious or upset at Miami.
U Miami or Ohio State
If you look back on the thread @sss111222 said his counselor called admissions and that’s what admissions told his counselor.
