University of Michigan 2023 waitlisted applicants

Class of 2022:

14,763 offered a place on waiting list
6,000 accepted place on waiting list (41%)
415 offered admission from waitlist (7%)

My advise for the wait list is simple. Accept it if you want to then move on. Place a deposit on another school, do Facebook etc and get to know the students and activities. Sign up for orientation and campus day type of things. Buy swag! Get excited about your new school.

Then, if a miracle happens and you get hit by lighting, twice, and get accepted off the wait list. Then and only then, you will have to make a choice. But until then… Get excited about your next adventure and good luck! ??.

So they don’t want the LOCI or updates?

Do you guys know if there is an “official waitlist list” ranking all of us? and if we are waiting for a spot in our specific school/ major or Michigan in general?

Waitlists aren’t ranked

@sushiritto notes that UM admits by school; can we assume that they waitlist by school as well? Vanderbilt makes it very clear that they have separate waitlists for their four separate colleges; I wonder if UM does something similar.

It would seem crazy, for example, to waitlist several hundred for small programs Kinesiology or Stamps; then again, it also seems crazy to waitlist something like 15,000 students, so maybe it’s just anyone who has the stats to make the cut?

It would also be interesting to know what the waitlist admit rates are for each school–though I’m guessing we’ll never know.

My real interest is in how many they might have waitlisted this year for the CoE–I’d love to take (small) comfort in the idea that my son’s chances are something like 50/1000 rather than 50/5000.

@TwoHearted. I would assume they wait list by school since they want to make sure not to overload a program. But I don’t think there is anywhere to get those numbers. The last two year there were around 450 people taken off the wait list total. My hunch is that this year is going to be much less. I think more people accepted during the EA phase then in previous years and there just are not that many slots per se. I don’t know this for fact for even 500 taken off the wait list is a very long shot. As I have suggested. Move on… Get excited about the options you currently have. If something opens up in June /July and your notified then great. You will have a choice to make then. Right now your playing the lottery and very few will win anything at all.

Good Luck.

Oddly Georgetown sent out those numbers from the prior year for each school to those waitlisted to give those on the waitlist a sense of reality going forward. So yes they waitlisted according to school too. I agree, The University of Michigan likely does as well.

Has anyone received their decision email yet? Just my portal had the decision.

@greg4k what?! Did you get in?

Unfortunately no, I was talking about the email notifying that you’re waitlisted

My S got email night portal changed

weird, I never got an email… anyone else?

Do a lot of people get waitlisted from Taubman?

Is it true that some people get accepted off the waitlist before May 1st?

^^^^ ??

My buddy got off the waitlist after 2 weeks into May. And I think they start accepting people after May 1st because they know the amount of people that put a deposit down to attend.

Did you guys send a LOCI?

Yes. And having college counselors call on my behalf.

As I was searching through the waitlist thread of 2022, decisions usually come in three waves. First wave hits by May 7th, then the 24th, then mid June.
