University of Michigan 2023 waitlisted applicants

Thanks for investigating, @Swoosh10. I wonder if there’s a pattern over the past few years. I wonder, too, if they don’t just do “waves” but keep sending out more admits as they get people turning down offers. I’m assuming it’s in their interest to get the class filled asap, rather than sticking to any strict timeline for sending out acceptances.

I’m assuming they don’t reject anyone from the waitlist until they’re done with the process? (Don’t get me started on the practice of keeping 5,000 students on the line for a final decision until July…)

My D on waitlist. SAT 1530 GPA 3.7 CS. OOS. Asian origin. right now deciding UW Madison or UGA Honors. Thanks

We know someone who got off the waitlist yesterday.

@2b2g1d We also know someone who got off the WL yesterday.

Who’s “we,” @2b2g1d and @goblue246810 ? And why have you both never posted here before?

So kids on the Michigan wait list need to send an LOCI regarding coming off the wait list?

Do this

So he did that…accepted the wait list spot right away…does not say anything about reaching out or writing a letter of interest.

Geez, @twohearted. I haven’t posted b/c I didn’t have anything new to add to the conversation. “We” is my family. Our son, who applied and has been waitlisted, has a friend who got an email on Friday accepting her off the wait list. I thought that would be relevant.

Thanks for the info. Maybe some kids start to reject the acceptance before approaching the may 1 deadline, thus make some spots available…

@PopUpZone1921 if he can attend and you aren’t reliant on a particular end cost he can certainly send a short email to his admission counselor and say if accepted he will accept right away…that is about it. There’s no guarantee that will work but the negotiating is over and this is simply a list of kids to fill out the class if they have to and no one knows where the “holes” are. I’ve been around when no one got off the wait list.

@Twohearted. My comments echo goblue246910. We is my family. My daughter was deferred and then waitlisted. We are OOS. Several students got in from her high school. And many more deferred. The one who got in over the weekend was a double legacy with the grades, scores and more. It should have been an immediate early acceptance. So it all worked out. Meanwhile my daughter committed to her seventh choice.

@2b2g1d & @goblue246810 - Curious if the 2 students who got in over the weekend had actually been waitlisted and this was a new decision or deferred. 4/19 was supposed to be the last wave of decisions so it would seem likely they had been deferred and got their decision this weekend.

@Momof2boys1 This particular student applied to LSA, was deferred for Early Action and waitlisted for Regular Decision. Like 2b2g1d, she was also a legacy and extremely qualified. Perhaps legacies are at the top of the wait list?

Didn’t mean to be overly suspicious or skeptical, @goblue246810 and @2b2g1d – I just didn’t think anyone would be offered a spot off the waitlist until at least May 1, since UM won’t know until then how many open spots they’ll have.

(And, as a parent of a kid who’s totally got the stats to get in but has been waiting now since last November, I’ll admit I’m a bit touchy about the whole waitlist thing…)

Just FYI: UCLA took some kids off the waitlist today.

My son sent LOCI to his area representative via e-mail last Friday. I just wonder anyone know the e-mail address of university admission office?

If you also apply the preferred admission to Ross, and get off the WL, will you still be considered for Ross?

Have people heard off of the waitlist or is it just speculation?
