I was offered HAIL before even applying, it is what gave me hope of actually getting in and causing me to apply. Do you think getting HAIL w out an interview or anything will help my chances?
@FullOfSmiles I think it just means that you won’t be considered for SMTD because a portfolio/audition is required I believe. As long as everything was in for LSA I don’t see why they would not consider you unless they assumed you were still applying and were waiting for RD to submit an audition tape. I think you should be fine though…
@quackunited Merit scholarships are very competitive, but they do provide generous need based aids to low income students even from OOS. They meet the needs of OOS students with family income below $90k and all in-state students.
so does everyone think that decisions will be out tomorrow at 3 pm?
@Sassmann8 I know I’ve heard that, as well as seen it demonstrated this year. My friend who has a 36 and great ECs got deferred, along with two friends with a 33 and 34. Two girls from my school with a 1200 and a 32 and mediocre stats got accepted. It just sucks because Tulane was definitely not a safety for me and I could not visit as I live thousands of miles away. Don’t know how else I’m supposed to show interest besides an interview, which I did not get.
@sw9910 Personally I think so. It would follow last year’s release period and makes more sense than Friday imo
@agrace14 HAIL interviews are offered to every COE applicant in states/regions where UMich has engineering alums willing to interview. By most accounts, including from a relative who does alumni interviews for a different top school, failure to participate will not be held against you.
@finnb I was never offered an interview is my thing- my principal called me to the office and told me that i had received he HAIL scholarship from University of Michigan, which was in September. So I was awarded it basically just due to academic & financial knowledge the umich gained without an application or interview.
@billybobby54 in state student
@agrace14 … Oh, sorry, we are talking about two different things. U-M uses the acronym “HAIL” for at least two different things. I was writing about the COE “HAIL” (Hometown Alumni Involvement Link) interview that is offered to engineering applicants with alumni in the area. I think you are writing about the HAIL (High Achieving Involved Leader) Scholarship which is really impressive. Sorry for any confusion.
Hi, I applied to University of Michigan this past year and am hoping to get in!!
Stats:
3.86 WGPA(Had a concussion my sophomore year, and my grades all tanked bad, wrote an essay on it)
SAT: 1370, 740 on Math 630 CR/W(34 on English)
Numerous ECs from Officer of NHS, to captain of basketball team for 2 years
111 community service hours
Strong LOR
Good Essays
Out of state, but no Financial Aid Request
Private school that does not rank, but would be classified as top quarter
Please PM me if any more info is needed, as I am nervous to find out! I applied October 27th I think so hopefully that doesn’t put me at a disadvantage.
@sw9910 I also agree with @groovy_carlito . In recent memory, the 24th has never been a Saturday, so in all fairness, we are in uncharted waters. It makes no sense to release decisions this Friday, as they come in waves to not overload the server. Also, counselors must be on-hand for at least a few days to answer questions about mistakes, etc. Wednesday makes sense on all accounts
@finnb hahaha it’s alright! Thank you for offering your help!
When people say 3 PM, is that ET?
@quackunited from my understanding yes
Surprised nobody has guessed midnight release of decisions. I believe a few times in past few admissions cycles Michigan started releasing EA Decisions at midnight. My prediction is tomorrow at midnight. But a slight chance tonight at midnight. That would be my second guess.
Should it help me that I may be the only person in my high school that is applying, and that if I’m not, I have the most competitive application out of anybody in my school (at least for a STEM field major)? I’d be number one if my school county ranked.
Also, had a heart attack an hour ago when my mom busts in saying some people got a decision, so I should check, and I see an e-mail saying “U of M Admissions…” I was literally shaking while tapping the message…which turned out to be an advertisement from the University of Minnesota. Damn.
3pm tm I’m calling it
I think the rationale behind having a twin policy is that admissions decisions aren’t always consistent- for the most part the world can’t really tell (because your friend stats might not be true or there could be something in their record that they didn’t share with you). But the parents of twins will KNOW when there is an inconsistency. So they either accept them both or reject them both. Now- if you had a twin with terrible stats applying to the same school as a twin with great stats- maybe it’d be different-- or maybe they just reject to avoid the scene. I don’t know.
@trackmbe3 As far as I know, they’ve released it starting at three the past few years (I know for a fact they did that last year, looking at the CC thread). Would be nice to wake up to a decision though.
