University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

deffered

Decision emails will continue to roll out for the rest of the week. If you have not heard back, it does not mean you’re deferred or rejected

Wait why did so many people just get deferred? Is that fake?

Excited, relieved, humbled that my son got in to COE (Mechanical Engineering) as I see other kids with similar stats that have been deferred. We are OOS: California, Bay Area. GPA = 3.975 UW, 4.4ish weighted, 11 APs and many Honors classes; 1540 (750R/W / 790 M), 800 Math SAT2, 5s on AP tests for Calc AB, BC, Physics C; National Merit Commended, AP Scholar with Distinction, Departmental awards for Calc BC (top 2 students in school of 1700) and Spanish for Native Speakers (top 3 students, we are not native speakers…), Eagle Scout w/ several Scouting awards, Cross Country 4 years, 4 yrs High Jump (medalist at regional level) and Pole Vaulter, drummer in Marching / Jazz / indie band (drumming for 10 years). Nanoscience Institute, UCLA. This may be clincher: two summers spent doing research in ChemE lab at Stanford, each with a published paper, and the professor probably wrote a sterling rec because my son had a great experience there, and it showed. Denied at Stanford (from our area, they took legacy / employee kids only) which was quite hard to swallow… for a few days, that is. I suspect that it is the “other” stuff that tipped him into the accepted pool at Michigan. Maybe he had a good interview, too? We are very excited. Hang in there, everyone else – plenty of deferred kids get in. You just don’t get to relax quite as soon as we do. We are VERY EXCITED about Michigan.

put SoE as preferred admission on the common app. will I hear back about that soon?

Yes, @xoxogoirish. Which is why you should send a LOCI, and, while hindsight is 20/20, should have strongly showed interest in both essays and something like a visit or college fair.

I got into the Residential College in LSA. Can someone tell me if this is better or worse than general LSA? Can’t tell if its a special program for the lesser or better or doesn’t mean anything. Thanks.

guys can you give me a link to the portal to check my status? I wasn’t able to login for the past 15 minutes and maybe its just because I was on the wrong one???

Wow, I didn’t think I had a chance looking at all these deferrals. Mostly though, I didn’t take the SAT essay.

I heard a rumor that they had so many applications that they couldn’t read them all so they just deferred them.

@pvcamom -Congratulations!! My son got deferred at UMICH and we from bay area. Just curious to know how do you get an opportunity to research at Stanford, is it thru summer course ? What is the pre-requisite and how expensive it is.

Still haven’t heard anything!!

My Recent (February) grades thing in the application changed from “notification” to “second notification” at 6pm EST, does this mean anything?
