HAS ANYONE WHO HAD IT SAY SECOND NOTIFICATION FOR MID-FEB GRADES GOTTEN INTO MICHIGAN???
PLEASE RESPOND ^^^ FREAKING OUT
@brownsie000 RE school choice if you’re going pre-med (doubt you’ll see this reply but … typed it so may as well hit the post button)
This is just an anecdote and you should make your school choices on a myriad of reasons … it is not advice but just one more thing to consider … along with finances, desire, relative reputation advantages for certain careers (for almost all careers hard work on the job is most important… but for some pedigree and networking with elite can play a role long term - but read on)
I have a close friend who is a Doctor and loves medicine. He has 2 daughters, one of who was a super elite high school student like most of you guys getting admitted to Michigan and one of whom was a fair student at best ( like 3.2 or so with no APs)
The fair(poor?) high school student is attending Colorodo - she’s actually excelling there in school - enjoying her classes and getting better grades than she did in high school (clearly the expecations of professors must be lower there given how much less accomplished students are getting in)
His super-applied, intellectually minded daughter was admitted and is attending a top University of California campus … not unlike Michigan in esteem (us news , forbes lists) and caliber of the student body.
Her daughter had always dreamed of following her father into medicine. Her freshman year at the elite UC campus she took O Chem and struggled to get a C in that - struggled despite working very hard. For those of you who know UC grading … that might not be as much a shock … at least in the old days… I wouldn’t be surprised if it is similar at Michigan
His daughter with her life-long interest decided that she couldn’t hang with the elite students and the expectations and has given up on pre-med track (perhaps she still has time to hopefully change her mind … never say never … but still)
Had she gone to Colorodo like her less academic sister, she probably would have flourished in OChem … gotten an A … continued her love of sciences.
While Med schools will cut some grade slack based on schools… perhaps not always enough slack, and never enough slack for someone who loses interest and never applies.
Just a story … no more no less. It’s probably impossible for an elite achiever in high school to imagine being of average or less aptitude as your classmates. I’m not advocating being a slacker either and looking for an easier path if that is your only consideration … but if you hoped to double major while taking premed or were on the fence between schools for other reasons, it might be a consideration.

@collegefind1234 I feel you. Deferred with 1550 new SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, OOS. I think Michigan defers out of state students who are overqualified because they don’t think they will attend. I guess I’ll just email them letting them know of my interest.
