Not to freak you out but I just called the office of admissions and asked about the second notification for mid-Feb grades. Their response was “you will be receiving an email which will explain what that notification means”. Clearly it means I was deferred and they need a report of my mid-Feb grades. So disappointed after spending 10 hours refreshing every minute.

how do i get in earlier/ dont want to wait till april
If you looked at my previously response, I said that everyone who got the second notification thing is going to receive an email according to the office of admissions. This is mostly a defer and wanting to see grades.
If that is the case, then I wonder why some people were notified on the portal that they were deferred while others were not.
You can NOT be denied in the EA round. It is accepted or deferred…per above. Someone called Michigan.

I had the second notification and I just got an email saying I was deferred so chances are if you have the second notification, you are deferred
According to UofM 2021 EA FAQ: “There are three possible decisions that a student receives during the Early Action round of applications. They can be admitted to University of Michigan’s Class of 2021, they can be denied admission, or they could be deferred for a later decision by early April”
So I still think rejections were possible

My friend applied EA and doesn’t know how to see her decision. Should she be logging into the portal or waiting for notification through email?
can someone pleas explain the difference between the two deferrals?
