Does Michigan really holistically review applications because I am a little below the test score averages however my gpa is pretty good and my application is good (lots of ECs, community service, NHS, strong essay and supplements), do I have a chance at getting in even though my test scores are a little below the Michigan average? Also does anyone think they will start notifying this Friday?
I think they are required to holistically review apps and I would also say that no one except Michigan can truly tell you your chances. Regardless of that, I think you still have a chance even w/o super high test scores. I am kind of in the opposite situation. I’ve got high test scores, but I don’t have that perfect gpa. I still have hope because I know that schools (including Michigan) look at all aspects of everyone’s application.
I think they might start notifying this Friday. I saw somewhere that in a previous year, decisions were starting to be announced on the 14th (this Friday is the 15th). They have a tendency to release scores on Fridays so I think they’ll be released this Friday or next Friday. The likelihood of it being this Friday goes down as we come closer to that date, hence why I keep checking their Twitter page.
tl;dr
Yes, you have a chance.
Yes, I think they will (and should) start notifying this Friday, but I’m not entirely sure.
Off topic but sometimes I feel like people post their obviously high stats to show off haha
voluntary response bias
How long does it take for all decisions to be released? I’ve heard they come out in waves, and was curious.
@LadyBird12 that’s what i heard too. they said dont expect the notification between 15-20 as they will send out the defer and reject earlier? not sure. another lady bird fan btw?
Won’t it kind of be unfair for people to get in on Dec 15th that did ED somewhere else? Because ED decisions usually come out this Friday and if people that applied to UMich EA but get into their ED schools, their applications are withdrawn from every other college. But if they got the decisions the same day the applications wouldn’t be withdrawn…does that make any sense
I’m quite excited to see my decision, but also a fair bit nervous. I feel like I have a very strong application (straight As taking IB Diploma, 3 varsity sports, NHS, trivia club, strong essays, 33 ACT, my father and grandfather both are alums, and I also had a sweet gig with the NIH in Bethesda, MD that I got to brag about), but there’s always someone better than you. I’m really hoping for admittance, and only 12 days left max…it’s agonizing!
i have a question about the “optional report” on commonapp. my counselor only submitted the rec and the school report, and i dont think the school report contains anything from 12th grade, except maybe what courses i am taking? i heard that optional report is about the first quarter’s grade in the senior year. do you guys think that i should ask my counselor to submit the optional report? i did pretty well in the first quarter…straight As and APs, which is not common in my school…also is it a bit late?
if i knew i would do well in the first two quarters, i would wait until RD round and show them my senior grades…
@coolandnerdyyy same…My counselor didnt sent my optional report either but I think submitting it now is meaningless lol
so nobody knows when the results will be coming out?
@Hiddle I think it’s all very ambiguous and everyone is just kind of guessing…I am just really hoping they come out this Friday.
Thought this might be helpful- here is when decisions have been released for UMich EA in recent years. Couldn’t find anything pre-2011 (maybe CC wasn’t a thing?).
2011 12/16- Two Fridays before the 24th (24th was on a Saturday)
2012 12/14- Two Fridays before 24th (24th was on a Monday)
2013 12/20- Friday before the 24th (24th was on a Tuesday)
2014 12/19- Friday before the 24th (24th was on a Wednesday)
2015 12/18- Friday before the 24th (24th was on a Thursday)
2016 12/21- Wednesday before the 24th (24th was on a Saturday)
2017 ? (24th is on a Sunday)
As you can see, in recent memory, the 24th (date by which they promise to release decisions) has never been on a Sunday, so it’s tough to anticipate the exact date. Please feel free to fact-check all dates.
Also, which year did they switch to commonapp? That caused a huge increase in the number of apps they get every year. That would have started the delay. For e.g., In 2011 and 2012, they released it much earlier (8 and 10 days before 12/24) when compared to starting in 2013 where it has been 4-6 days before 24th. Based on that, 20th seems like a good bet.
@Bella2018 better than straight rejected
my son got that email as well. To the school of education. Hopefully its a good sign.
@suz616 What email??
There’s already a thread on the subject:
Look towards the last pages.
I got an email a few days ago from school of ed! Maybe it’s the same one
