University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

@billcsho I wouldn’t doubt that total apps will be 65,000-70,000 when it’s all said and done.

@KDot19 Do you have factual support for an acceptance rate of 15%. I kinda guesstimated between 15-20%, based upon last year’s freshman class size of about 7,000.

@sushiritto Yes I do. One of my recommendations was from a very influential public figure with very close ties from Michigan. My numbers come directly from the UM Dean of Admissions.

@KDot19 No disrespect or offense intended, but word of mouth is still hearsay. Nonetheless, the 15% number does seem plausbile.

Also these are approximations that were given. Clearly the number may be slightly off, but 15% seems about right

Wow, impressive class rankings. I wish the best to your D.

Submitted only a could of days early, and accepted. I bet it is a bit random.

Financial Aid is more like March.

Oct 21st

Accepted with a 33 ACT, 3.89/4 Unweighted GPA, no AP classes, and some dual enrollment classes. Congrats to everyone!

Accepted - S got in with LSA - biophysics major -

SAT 1510 (took only once) - 760M 750CR
SAT II - Physics 790, M2 800, Biology 770
ACT 34C(didn’t send)
GPA- 3.63 (uw) - he broke his foot w/ sports injury in freshmen yr (3.25 uw that yr, 3.8+ for soph/jun)
GPA - 3.95 (w) - (3.45 in freshmen yr…4.1+,4.3+ for sop/jun)
7 APs at time of application and 5 APs in senior yr - (two 4s APUSH, APWH and five 5s APstats, AP calc AB, AP Lang, AP physics I, AP Biology )

sorry for those who got deferred… it is a very tough round.

Hope you guys can improve the mid-term grades, they do matter. The very high score kids with strong SAT/GPA combo MUST consider backup plans if they are deferred this round. My D was in that position two years ago. Got defer w/ 2280 SAT and 8 APs (all 5s) and 3.89 uw GPA 4.39 w GPA - weaker ECs -

midterm grades just didn’t move the needle enough at the end…

Thank goodness for the backup plan with other engineering schools, she is a happy camper at CMU right now.

Umich really doesn’t have “Tufts” syndrome, when they defer high stats kids, they have reasons and those tend to stick.

At least through my experience and others whom have gone thru this routine. Good luck.

ACCEPT ME?!

Oh ok thank you! Hopefully everything works out for the best then. Happy Holidays!

@exlibris97 Oh ok thank you! Hopefulky everything works out for the best then. Happy Holidays!

@KDot19 Umich does not have a Dean of Admissions. There’s a Dean of Students and a Director of Admissions

@sushiritto his estimate is fairly close. It’s about 18% to 19%

Absolutely crazy this year with the surge of EA numbers across the many schools my S applied. That’s the downside of common app. When my eldest applied to UMich about 8 yrs ago, the acceptance rate was close to 50%. Now, if the 70K total application number holds true, the acceptance rate will be in the 21% - wow - and if you take out the in-state kids, the odds for OOS acceptance is abysmal. I am just glad I am done with all three of my kiddos with this whole application process. At this rate, Umich could hit 100K total applications by 2021. Just in time for those high school freshmen now. The days of applying 5-6 schools are done. Common app better expand the 20 limit with this ever expanding trend. It is not like we have more kids want to goto college, just more kids able to apply many schools with relative ease, and many more kids chasing the same brand name schools without considering of fit.

What are odds of acceptance after deferral? Not sure of the difference between deferred and waitlisted.

When will the physical admission packages be sent out?

@Mickey2Dad i actually think they should decrease the number of schools that kids can apply to. The CA makes it too easy to apply to so many, and many kids do just that. Yes, there are schools that have additional supplements, but many main essays can be recycled. The problem is that it is so easy to apply with the CA that kids do “just to see if they can get in”…that bogs the system with so many candidates. A limit would be much better. It would force kids to seek fit and realistic acceptance versus applying all over.

Is it compulsory to submit our mid-year grades if we have been deferred, considering that my mid-year grades will negatively affect my application?

Here’s a copy of the email I got last night at around 11pm confirming the admittance notification that I received through the portal earlier in the day.
