I’m so confused because the portal gave me the standard deferral message, but in my email there is an extra sentence noting my “family ties” to the score referring to my legacy status. Does this mean anything?!?!?!
D accepted in LSA, OOS, 4.313/W gpa, 33 ACT, SAT II 740 on both Bio and Math II, 3 AP classes all with score = 5, senior load with 4 AP classes, legacy. Congrats everyone!
@LvMyKids2 - my son was accepted to CoE from OOS. He found out in English class along with two of his classmates (all admitted early to CoE). About seven (maybe ten?) more kids in his grade deferred to Regular Decision.
He had a 1550 SAT (780m, 770r), 3.95 uw GPA in a full IB diploma program. We are in WA state.
Does anyone know the email address that I need to send my LOCI to?
@SingingBusDriver yes my mistake. Either way, these numbers were given directly from the admissions office. As it is “word of mouth” take it with a grain of salt if you want, but I believe these numbers to be accurate and hopefully helpful to everyone. 2 close friends also deferred, so we’re in the same boat
Does anybody know when deferred applicants could start receiving their final admission decision? I’ve heard people receiving their decision in early January as well as in early April. Can anybody confirm?
@haost23 it could start in a week, and if you look back at past U of M threads, there’s usually a handful of kids who are accepted within a week or so. My guess is this is because more people withdraw their apps due to ED somewhere else.
^ That is not true. The ED withdrawal would not affect their admission schedule at all. They are already considered in the potential yield loss. There is no substitution needed until after May 1. RD rolling results will usually come out in Feb and later. In the past when there were deferral due to insufficient time to finish EA reviewing process on time, there were January admissions. For instance, the EA deadline was postpone by 2 weeks in 2013 due to CommonApp problem.
That makes sense @billcsho
A crazy idea - given that UM is now 50/50 in state/out of state, and the out of state fraction has an enormous possible applicant pool with a modest and uncertain yield, should UM go to ED instead of EA? It would seem to make their job easier. Probably fewer applicants overall, although they would still get plenty, and higher yield.
Deferred with 34 ACT and 4.25 GPA OOS. Hoping to hear some better news.
I was accepted into biomedical engineering
I received an email saying Michigan EA decisions will be released by December 24, but does anyone know what specific day they will come out?If anyone has insight from previous years or applied EA this year as well I’d love to hear back.
What do “bees” have to do with the wolverines?
My OOS D was accepted to LSA. She just received an email today inviting her to apply to the Honors Program. Does anyone know if that’s a standard email they send to everyone?? And is it better to apply sooner rather than later?
Has anyone received their acceptance packet in the mail yet? I’m from the northeast and haven’t gotten anything!
@wrenwu From the U-M website:
“Do I need to be invited?
Any student who is admitted to U-M LSA may apply to Honors. Some randomly selected students will receive a letter outlining the Honors Program and welcoming them to apply. It is not necessary to wait for such a letter, nor does it imply preferential admittance.”
Check out this website:

^My classmate got an invitation to apply but I didn’t. Does this mean I won’t have a a good chance of getting in?
No, that’s the version they send to all deferred legacies. We read it as simply acknowledging that you are a legacy & that had been considered. Basically same letter sent to my daughter 2 years ago. Sadly she did not get in & now my other daughter just got same letter too. Hoping she & you ultimately get in!
Accepted to LSA early action with a 1350 SAT!! Dreams come true lol
