@97hannah you should get your UM ID in your email shortly. As soon as possible I suggest getting your transcripts and everything in if you haven’t already. Once you get your UM ID check wolverine access and make sure all your material is in and processed or call admissions
Update: Heard back after about 2 weeks of them giving me access to the page. Got in, debating whether to accept as OOS.
I applied to the college of LSA as a transfer student. Could somebody chance me?
I am currently a sophomore at “public ivy” school. I know what my weakness is. I had a bad second semester last year(2.9 GPA), but I think my extracurricular activities might give me a chance. I had one amazing essay specifically about what I want to do at U of M(I want to double major in Econ and Screen Arts and Culture), two good ones about my involvement on campus, and an average but honest essay for the reasons of why I’m transferring. Obviously you can’t really judge how my essays were, but I thought I put it out there.
Here are my credentials:
ACT Score: 31
Major: Finance, Film Studies Co-Major
College GPA: 3.23
Credits: 31
AP Credits: 15
EC: Treasurer of a business fraternity, secretary of fraternity just coming back on campus, member of a film club, writer for the school newspaper, internship last summer with independent sales agency, dean’s list first semester of college.
High School GPA: 3.5
EC: Three-time state champ for tennis/captained the team to a state tennis championship one year, 3 years on student council where I was the Treasurer, VP, and Trustee, two years of theater, and two years of school media show.
@surfghost You got in?! Congrats! That’s amazing!
All I know is that my advisor has my application in the queue to be reviewed. Anyone know if it’s going alphabetically? I can’t take this wait. It’s driving me crazy!!! Someone just tell me yes or no so I can live the rest of my life. :-SS
@letsgooooo1 I think even with your lower second semester grades you’ve got a good chance. Your high school states are good and since you still only have 31 credits they’ll be looking at that a lot as well.
@jessaw6 I haven’t heard anything about it being alphabetical. I believe it goes just in order of when your application was marked complete. I had previously heard out of state students hear later but surf ghost disproves that. Are you LSA? I only ask because I know LSA people will usually hear back way before the other schools, especially COE.
@surfghost congrats and I am so jealous of the fast response you got back.
@jessaw6 it’s def not alphabetical I think it goes in order of when you applied probably. They told me my app was in the queue to be marked as complete last Wednesday and was marked complete then and then I heard back Friday. So hopefully that helps -u should hear soon
@historyrepeat I’m out of state and attending a top 50 university. Honestly I think you have a good shot and I wouldn’t worry. I think main reason for us not getting in first time was credits because they really want to see 50-60. So if u have that and grades above like a 3.5 you are probably good.
@dreamwolverine17 yeah I live right outside of ann arbor so I’ve met with admissions reps a couple of times and one of them mentioned if I didn’t get accepted in the fall I could come in and someone could go over my application and tell me what to improve on. They really just told me I needed more credits especially because my high school grades were so bad (I’m talking like 2.something). I’ve maintained a 4.0 thus far and now I’ll have north of 50 credits. I also have a 31 ACT which I think helps show my high school grades weren’t very representative of the student I am. I know that if I don’t get accepted I’m sure I could in fall 2017 but I’m just hoping to not have to wait that long.
@historyrepeat @dreamwolverine17 I sent in my application August 3rd and everything was received by September 19 and marked complete. I applied to LSA and I’m out of state. I think it’s not looking too good for me lol.
@jessaw6 was everything received by September 19th? or was that when it was marked complete? I ask because sometimes it takes a little bit after they receive everything to actually mark it was complete. As far as I know the only way to find out if and when the application was marked as complete is to email your advisor or to call admissions.
And don’t say that. You really never know. My academic advisor at my CC used to work admissions at COE and he says theres so many variables involved its hard to pick. You could get someone reading your essay while watching a football game and their team loses and he could read your essay in a bad mood. You could get someone who is blown away by your essays and accepts you. It’s really hard to know. Just hope for the best you may be surprised.
@historyrepeat I honestly don’t know when it was marked complete. I got an email back from my advisor on the 29th letting me know after I asked but it was pretty vague. I didn’t want to seem pushy so I didn’t email back asking the specific date it was marked complete. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I hope all goes well for you.
At least I know everyone else in this thread is familiar with the terribly anxious waiting period. Everyone else around me thinks I’m crazy for checking so often!
@historyrepeat That sounds like a similar situation to mine, except for I’ll have a few more credits at the end of this semester. I also got a high ACT, but low high school grades. I think what helped my case though was I graduated a year ahead of time. I think my essays were pretty strong, that may have helped too? I think you should be accepted, but if you aren’t it could be because of not having the 60ish credits.
@jessaw6 I think they review it and if it’s either very strong or weak it’s almost automatically accepted/denied by the first 2 who read it. They should start to review it when it’s complete though.
I don’t really know how I heard back about 3 weeks exactly after finishing my common app and maybe 2 after they received my transcripts and ACT according to access page. How long has everyone else waited since they sent everything in? I never knew when mine was technically marked complete, but I guess it was around a day after they posted my ACT date.
Is this anyone’s second time applying? I applied last December for fall 2016 but was denied admission. I’ve been able to really boost my application this time around with better grades and more EC’s. Is the process any different when the admissions office looks at students who are reapplying? Do they compare the two applications? Congratulations to those who’ve already heard back! For the record, I’m an out of state CC applicant.
Congrats to everyone! I can defiantly relate to the application and waiting anxiety this process has been filled with. I am currently serving on Active Duty in the US Army, and to be honest a little worried about my application. I submitted 6 essays in total, all of which I felt were honest and sincere. My high school GPA was like a 1.9 and got a 19 on the ACT. Needless to say I didn’t care very much in high school. I’m not sure what role this will play in my application seeing how I graduated in 2012 have a distinguished record of Service. I have 67 credits with about 15 being ACT credits and a 3.94 GPA in college. I also have 3 very strong letters of recommendations, so I guess were just waiting to see.
@bluedreamer good luck! I’m sure they will take your dedication and improvement into consideration. I just wonder if there is a large group of applicants for this winter semester. It doesn’t seem like too many are starting conversations. Could be good news for all of us!
@bluebel57 This is my second time applying. I applied for the fall like you. I’m not sure if they compare the applications or anything like that but I think your better grades and stuff will go a long way.
@bluedreamer I’ve been told the more credits you have the less they look at your high school grades and ACT, I’ve even been told passed junior status they don’t even consider high school grades in your decision, they just need them to make sure you graduated. Your GPA is good and I think your essays will help a lot too, I wouldn’t worry too much about your high school stats.
@jessaw6 I was wondering the same thing. There aren’t too many people in this thread but obviously the majority of people probably wouldn’t be on here. Regardless though since so few people are talking on here it makes me think not as many people have applied for winter.
Hi guys,
If somebody could give m an honest assessment of my semi0unique circumstances that would be great.
Background: I was accepted to the University of Michigan as a senior in High School for the class of 2019. I chose instead to go to a U.S. News Top 10 University. However, during my senior ear I had to go through three surgeries and postoperative depression that followed. As a result, my grades slipped a little and I withdrew from two classes my freshmen year in college, but overloaded two semesters to make up for it. I mentioned that situation in the additional comments section of the common app. All in all my stats are as followed:
High School:
GPA 3.9
SAT 1: 2300
Math 2: 790
Literature: 760
U.S. History 730
IB Diploma and five APs
EC: Fantastic – nationally competitive organizations and national awards
College:
GPA: 3.65 (above average for my Institution)
Sophmore standing – close to Junior with APs and IBs
EC: Still pretty good, although not as accomplished yet as I was in high school. Had a premier political internship
Recommendations: One solid and one amazing
Essays: Objectively really good. I am an essay mentor for my old high school.
I guess my question is will my one year slip due to medical reasons severely impact my ability to transfer?
@rich_ramani412 did you mention in the additional information on common app about your medical situation? I’m my opinion, you have excellent stats and any medical circumstance shouldn’t hinder a chance at admission. Especially since you were accepted before. Good luck!!!
@bluevel57 I did mention it. I just hope they don’t think of it as an excuse for slipping effort.
@rich_ramani412 I highly doubt your one year slip is going to have any effect on your chances. tbh I would be shocked if you didn’t get accepted. And I don’t mean to get your hopes up or anything but really. If you were accepted previously they usually always accept you again.
Under the required materials section of my application, it says that the only thing missing is my final secondary school transcript, but because I was homeschooled, I don’t have one. There’s also no information about my CC transcript, which I did send in. Does that mean that they received my CC transcript? Or do they just consider college transcripts a secondary school transcript for transfer students for some reason? I’m just wondering if maybe they already have everything they need to start reviewing my application, but they’re expecting a high school transcript that will never come before they mark it complete.
